Tyson was WBC champ in 96.
In 96 Lewis fought Mercer who I'd rate even at that stage of his career a lot higher than Hide.

Larry Holmes had just won the WBO title from Ray Mercer and called for a fight with Lewis in 93 Lewis wanted nothing to do with Holmes... you can read this in Holmes book "Against the odds"

Holmes didn't win the WBO title from Mercer, Mercer was stripped or relinquished it as it wasn't worth a bucket of warm piss.

Chris Byrd was IBF No1 contender for 2yrs 1999-2001 but Lennox Lewis wanted nothing to do with Byrd so was stripped of the IBF belt.

I don't think that Lewis gets particularily idolised, think he is respected rather than loved. That respect is for his career as a whole no fair minded person regards the Tyson fight as much. Lewis however was in a no win situation had he not of fought Tyson it would have left a gap in his resume he fought him and beat admittidly a shell and it rihtly gets little weight.

Mike Tysons resume is better than Lewis's? ah so while fighters like a past prime coming of a 2 year lay off Larry Holmes, a light heavyweight michael spinks who barely if at all beat larry holmes and trevor berbick are absolutley great names for tyson. While guys like a prime Vitali Klitschko, a holyfield who had just beaten tysonx2 and andrew golota who had just fought rid**** bowe x2, 2 fights which he should had won had he not been a nutcase. are just worthless wins? well they beat tysons 3 best wins anyway.

yes i have watched Toney vs Tiberi and i have Toney winning... i also had Pacquiao winning Marquez (2) along with lots of other fights that are call `robbery` i seem to always have them the way the judges score them
