On Fear: I believe the amateur fight was stopped too quickly and can't see why Bowe would come out of it fearing Lewis; In that fight Lewis didn't actually hurt Bowe and he certainly didn't dominate him. I don't see why people think that kind of loss would unravel Bowe and make him fearful. He showed no fear against a very powerful Holyfield.

I think your "Dokes/Ferguson" assessment is the underlying reality of Bowe's decline; grabbing for easy money.

I think he was satisfied being at the pinnacle (the HW Championship) and wasn't interested in any legacy building.
Well, said. I was wrong about that amateur fight. It was a quick stoppage, and as you say, says nothing about who Bowe proved to be following that bout.

Well, that's not really the issue. Look at his reason for doing it. The bigger problem is that Lewis' people provided an even more generous offer in response, and he still demurred.

I think Willie Pep's right, it was less a fear of facing Lewis than it was of saying good bye to nightly visits to Old Country Buffet.

If we were back in the ninities this conversation about Bowe would mimick every opponent that Lewis fought. People were convinced Razor Ruddock was going to beat Lewis with ease...

Bowe could be very formidable. Lewis was consistent and also formidable. The real question would be if Bowe could bully Lewis. I don't think he could. Lewis had the long game...

But did he in '93? I dont think that Lewis came until the mid 90s, after he signed up with Steward. I favor that Lewis a lot more against Bowe, than the earlier version who just kept looking for a KO.

              - -Used to like Lewie until he was exposed as the most insufferable bore in the world.

After being KOed by the diminished Tyson and then beat up with a broken jaw for the rematch, the Razor record was very thin and his body heavily damaged.

Had a slim and none punchers chance vs Lewis, but maybe U was in 3rd grade then and didn't know nuffin.

The alcohol is speaking... If I didn't know I would have thought Razor would win... Learn to think straight. One who insults and is an idiot is kind of like glass houses and stones...

And there are always reasons why a fighter won this, or that fight... Ok Rusty?

So Mercer could bully Lewis, but Big Sloppy couldn't!?!?

What about Holyfield's inside game could Bowe not replicate and exceed?

You know they both fought Holly... but very different versions, with very different results.

Lewis had the better career, and his style could create massive problems for Bowe. But in 93 he wasn't fighting as his best self. And even at his best, he had a tendency to cave against determined fighters.
