It is the whole institution and the training this institution upholds. The ethic has become, as long as an officer is guaranteeing his/her safety it is assumed the suspect escalated the use of force. Officers are not taught objectively what an escalation of force is, so much as told, "when you feel threatened you must act immediately." Also so many misconceptions are still upheld. "If the person can speak they can breathe" NO!! people can suffocate from pressure applied so they cannot take a full breathe in because of their body position. Chavin at one point says "if he can talk he can breathe" why are officers not taught that this is a falsehood? It should be a priority, in training, to get the suspect into a position where they can breathe properly.

The real people responsible for what happens to suspects like Floyd are the people who make training policy and are ignorant in assuming they are helping police by not training them properly, and then giving them license to use force based on perception alone. Any security person properly trained can see when distress is real with an individual, and when it is being used as a ploy.

I agree 100 percent and I'm glad you pointed that out. I've seen that misconception repeated often. An officer who worked as a Paramedic addressed that yesterday.

It's almost comical to see that's exactly how the media and social justice groups are portraying him. Not as the lifelong criminal and addict that he was...the "gentle giant" who pressed a gun to a pregnant women's belly and threatened to kill both her and the unborn child during a home invasion robbery. There are a millions more George Floyd's across the nation who no one gives two shyts about unless they are assaulted or killed by a cop or white person. Suddenly they become martyrs and fallen angels.

Which media outlets have done this? Or is this just more of the the same old? Make up something to complain about. If anything, they are probably referring to how his family members and friends described him. Of course they would remember him in a more affectionate way.

Unfortunately this is a situation with nuance. West Side Story, while it looks very silly today was a real commentary on how institutions become the cause of problems that wind up getting people into situations that destroy lives.

In this number there is cynacism, it is descriptive, it points to a real problem in a major institution that is there to help people. I can think of no better analogy for the institutions that train and prepare police in this country. These institutions have given a mandate to officers, often poorly trained, to use and escalate force with virtually no training otherwise. So while the kids in West Side Story can see, how disfunctional the juvy systems in place are... We are witnessing how ***********al the police institutions designed to protect us are.

Just like a smart kid can easily work the juvy system, a person who is in any way sadistic, sociopathic, can easily do the same in police departments everywhere. So yes, when we persecute conduct like that of this officer, we must understand the influences that allowed him to get where he is. Chauvin had a record of excessive force and it was not even considered important enough to question his fitness as an officer.

I agree that simply persecuting the maximum is not a solution to the problem. He should be penalized for some form of negligent homicide. The people that manage policy for training officers are not accessible like the occasional sadistic individual on the force. They are the people that need to be called on the carpet.

It's pretty funny seeing "The George Floyd Trial" titled by other networks, but CNN has it titled "The killing of George Floyd"

It's comical that you are repeating lies. He never threatened to kill a an unborn baby. The woman wasn't pregnant. Also leaving out that the house they robbed was drug dealers. But the truth doesn't matter to you.

                  Good article above.

Has that woman ever spoke out about the time George Floyd’s accomplices pistol whipped her in front of her 1 year old child? She wasn’t pregnant, she had her child with her though. Along with her boyfriend apparently.
Or well, that’s what SOME reports are saying. Others have the pregnant story. Either way, a child was present.

It would be interesting if she did, would like to see the reaction of people. Lots of mental gymnastics would take place I assume.

He's an All American Athlete who was on his way to great things. Many were saying the next Stephen Jackson.
