So would Connor McGregor have been lineal champion if he beat old semi retired Mayweather?

Unfortunately, the answer is probably yes.

Conor would have had a valid claim to have been "the man who beat the man".

Mayweather did. Dust up on your boxing history.

Boxing Scene has him as lineal: http://krikya360.com/forums/v...boxing-ratings
Numerous times. Nobody gives a **** about Boxingscene rankings.

That, or admit it is sprinkled with horse manure.

Fury is still "the man who beat the man".

I still consider him lineal and therefore this fight has the lineal title at stake.

But, even if you don't think Fury is the lineal right now, all you need to fill the lineal title is a box-off between two fighters qualified to claim it or two otherwise top ranked fighters.

Theoretically, a lineal box-off could take place between any two top 10 fighters.

We certainly have that. Actually we have much more than that.

We have arguably the best heavyweight in boxing, the longest reigning champion, going up against that same last lineal who never lost his title in the ring.

            This is a lineal fight.
You are just wrong. Wlad was considered lineal because of his many successful title defenses and cleaning out all the best heavyweights. Wlad was not the man who beat the man. If he was then what man would that be? Fury became the lineal champ when he beat Wlad and lost it by not defending it for years. Was the world supposed to wait years for Fury to come back? Fury vs Wilder is not for the lineal title. You can't just have two top heavyweights fight and call the winner the lineal champ when there is another champion ranked higher than either of them named AJ. To really be the true lineal champion the whole boxing public has to recognize you as the true champion not just a hand full of people hung up on the man who beat the man BS. The winner of Wilder vs Fury still has to beat AJ to be the real lineal champ and AJ still has to beat the Wilder vs Fury winner to be the real lineal champ. Boxing Scene is wrong on this and Ring magazine is right.

So, it isn't just about time or retirement, it is more about the circumstances.

                Fury didn't "retire".

He was unable to fight due to medical issues.

And to those arguing about the PED use disqualifying Fury from being lineal I have two words: Canelo Alvarez.

Tyson Fury is the lineal by any credible definition.

The lineal championship is indeed on the line Dec. 1 and there is no doubt in my mind that the winner will be called exactly that.

Any different and it's the folks at RING and other lineal bodies who will be the hypocrites.

PS- I get the feeling that certain fanboys would have no problem calling an AJ vs Fury fight lineal...

The only meaningful fight for Fury was an AJ fight, otherwise he gets stripped of any status that he had

If Joshua was fighting Fury you'd be ****ting all over it. Just because it's an American that struggles staying on his own feet when throwing a punch it's fine and for a fake lineal title.

                  No.

History is on my side, not yours.

Wlad became lineal after the title lay vacant almost 5 years! He did so by beating another highly ranked fighter after unifying over YEARS.

Yet, Jeffries fought Jack Johnson 6 years after he retired and that was considered a lineal fight.

Fury never retired nor did he lose in the ring.

He was unable to fight due to medical problems.

I do agree that the winner should fight AJ, just as I have always maintained that AJ could have avoided this controversy by fighting Fury or Wilder (either of which could have been considered a lineal fight when you understand how a lineal changes hands).

But, the winner Dec 1 will be lineal whether they fight AJ next or not.

You have the last "man who beat the man" (who never lost his lineal title in the ring) vs the longest reigning heavyweight champion-more than enough to crown a new lineal champ even if you consider it vacant, which I do not.

fury ate uncastrated beef (lolz) and got contaminated by a steroid in the same year he beat wlad, he was probably on peds all the time, cheating scum, cheaters should not be rewarded, they should have longer bans

If AJ was fighting Fury it would be for the lineal whether I liked it or not.

                      The same criteria would apply.

And, if AJ and Wilder had fought back in September, they could have made an argument for THAT being lineal (although as a purist I would have still wanted to see the winner fight Fury).

History backs a lineal champion who has not lost his title in the ring, does so over and over and over again.

Sorry to be the one to break it to you...
