BALDOMIR - 9 defeats, 6 draws at time of Floyd fight.
DE LA HOYA - Oscar way past prime but still a Split decision, many thought Oscar won. One judge scored it for him.
HATTON - Decent win, except that Collazo nearly beat Hatton.
MARQUEZ - Made him jump up from 135 to 147 with no tune up .
MOSLEY - Past-prime & Inactive for 1.5 years before the fight. No tune up..
ORTIZ - Suckerpunch win against poor opponent.
COTTO - Past-prime but Cotto still made it competitive and bloodied Floyds nose.
GUERRERRO - B or even C level opponent. Easy come forward style.
CANELO - Weight-drained to 152 catchweight. Slow, sluggish, 50% Canelo.
MAIDANA - Floyd arguably lost the fight, escaped with Majority Decision. One judge had it a draw.
MAIDANA - Did better 2nd time, but ran for his life in last round.
PACQUIAO - Only fought him after Marquez KOd him out cold for 5 mins.
BERTO - C or even D level opponent.
Floyd mastered "picking the right fight at the right time" but if you look closely at his record you can see that could easily be translated to cherry picking for most of his key victories.
Mosley
Delahoya
Hatton
I didn't know they were that bad at the time, and even badder later.

I was happy that he was smart in his decisions which allowed him to retire, and not damage 20 years of work and achievements and not keep fighting on to eat like so many legends did/do. Look at RJJ as an example of that.
Regardless of what biased haters say, and regardless of whatever subjective hate filled vitriol they spew with whatever hypothetical scenarios they conjure up to try come up with past or present boxers who could actually beat him, at the end of the day, Floyd is the greatest defensive boxer I've ever seen, the greatest boxer I've ever seen in MY opinion, and one of the G.O.A.T, whether you hate him or not. Subjective biases aside, he's one of the greatest to ever don the gloves.
Great analysis.

I was a little of both. It's sad to see any ATG retire, but I was relieved because the new talent of Welterweights can display their stuff and battle if out to see who's best instead of waiting around and chasing Floyd

Originally posted by FlatLine View PostBecause like I said, Floyd mastered "picking the right fight at the right time", or, in other words, selecting an opponent at a time when they were not at their best. He did this repeatedly throughout his career, and in fact that strategic method of picking opponents was one of Team Mayweather's most valuable skills. He took himself out of the game by "retiring" when Williams, Cotto, Wright and Margarito were major threats in the division, only to return later when the threats had died down and the landscape had changed.
bro....you do realize Margarito lost to Williams in july 2007...the same year Mayweather fought ODLH in may and Hatton in december....both those guys were more proven and accomplished more than Williams and Margarito....Williams was a prospect who also had no wins over top ten welterweights until he beat Margarito....that loss killed Margarito's momentum for a fight and he brought no title to the table....Also Williams goes on to lose his very next fight to Carlos Quintana in feb 2008, wins the rematch then he moved up for good
you cant rewrite history.......What was he going to benefit fighting a prospect like Williams and Margarito who was coming off a loss to a prospect? ODLH and Hatton were better fighters and opponents in 07....deal with it
Arum was not going to let Cotto fight Mayweather....Soon as Cotto left TR they fought his very next fight just like he and Oscar did.
It must really suck investing so much in to trolling.....at least support your position with facts...I know I can

Mosley was 1-1-1 in his last 3 fights and didnt win in over 2 years
Hatton was ktfo by mayweather, notched a few wins before but didnt look as impressive as he did in the past
Its funny because people are posting that Mayweather fought people at the right time...he did...usually after they won a big fight....Manny fought a lot of his opponents past 130 at catchweights, after a loss, or shaky performances
