Opinions vary~ and Leonard had it in him to silence all doubt he was straight on that.

So whatever~ I already said I thought Leonard won he just should have made it clear beyond all doubt he was the better man, then we wouldn't be having this conversation.
i would have to agree on the ongoing debate about the 50/50 split in the result of srl-hagler...especially hardcore 70's and 80's boxing fans, who watched all the of the controversy unfold at the time...a case could be made for both fighters to earn the split decision victory, and srl, i thought, was kinda corny, to retire when hagler asked him for a rematch, then when hagler retired, srl came out of retirement, to rematch hearns, and duran (a third time)...when he claimed, he didn't do rematches....so in retrospect, srl may have won the boxing match on the scorecards, but never proved he was the better man with hagler or won the war...lol

Ahh yes it is..... What official records state that Hagler won??? It was a close fight..... One man won one lost..... It wasn't a robbery like say Whitaker-Chavez Cloud-Campillo Lara-Williams or even Hearns-Leonard II......

As far as critics you will always have them regardless.... Not everybody is going to like you no matter what you do....

I still hear Benitez fans say if it wasn't for the headbutt Ray would have lost.... Or they stopped the Leonard-Hearns I fight too soon.... Critics are always going to be there it's a fact of life....

What are you Sugar Ray Leonard's son?

One I am talking about 1 specific fight, and I like Sugar Ray Leonard so all this is meaningless.

He should have rematched Hagler, he could have ended the debate but he didn't so it is all up to interpretation, if you can't accept this that is on you not me.

Seriously it is one of the most discussed fights ever and that certainly isn't because people all agree.

It isn't even that big a deal to me, but I know if something went down like that today people would be having a meltdown if dude walked away from a rematch from a win that disputed even as a close fight.

Either guy could have won close fight, I would have just liked there to be real finality rather than the endless debate but it is what it is and it is still a fun fight to talk about because there is a lot to debate.

a lot of ppl focus on, hagler giving up the first 3 rounds when he boxed orthodox, but not many focus on the last 2 or 3 rounds, when srl, was visibly running and throwing flashy, pit-pats that weren't landing, tying hagler up to protect a lead, that many thought hagler brought even after the 9th round with solid bodywork, instead of standing and trading with hagler, to prove ultimately he was the better fighter of the two...we've seen a similar situation when oscar de la hoya, ran and shoeshined against trinidad, and the judges dismissed that nonsense, and said trinidad was proving that he was the champ...

with srl-benitez, i thought benitez would be srl's first loss...i saw benitez taking it to srl hard, and srl intentionally butted, to slow benitez down...srl admitted in his book that benitez was his toughest fight, which would lend credence to anyone who felt, srl looked to slow benitez down in that fight...which i thought was a great fight...

I've watched it several times and just charged it to bias because I haven't given the fight to Hagler not once.... I'm a fan of the whole Fab Five but am from SRL stomping grounds so I just leave it at that since I haven't come to the same view as many Hagler fans.....

As for Benetiz I thought it was a great fight also.... Why do you think the butt was intentional???

He had no reason to face Hagler he was a weightclas above him! This means Hagler ducked Spinks too, right?

Fair enough afterwards but, I'm not sure Hagler really wanted it to be honest. Maybe for a year but, stopped pursuing quickly.
