Of course he tried to make the weight. He wouldn't have made it to 113 if he didn't try. Remember that Pac immediately moved to 122 after this fight so cutting to 113 would have been a struggle. Is it common for a flyweght to immediately jump to super bantam weight? It's a clear indication that Pac has out grown 112.
Was it wrong for him to come in 1 pound over the limit? Yes. That's why he suffered for it by being stripped of his title and being forced to wear heavier gloves. And he had nothing to gan by coming in overweight since he would be stripped of his title even before the fight.
But did he intend to cheat and gain a weight advantage by coming overweight? No, I don't think so...
The difference is that Mayweather completely dominated his opponent, winning every round while Pacquiao was knocked out inside three rounds.
Yet Mayweather gets no credit for his dominating win and people make excuses for Pacquiao's knockout losses. If Mayweather had been knocked out by Marquez after failing to make weight, you would have never heard the end of it from the Pacquiao fans. But when "Pacman" gets knocked out despite having a weight advantage over an opponent who's nowhere near as good as Marquez, they make excuses for him. Typical.Last edited by JK1700; 07-01-2010, 05:01 PM.

Well Floyd is considered a small Welterweight and he was fighting an opponent jumping up two weight classes. So 144 seemed fair as a catchweight.
Pac on the other hand was a starving, skinny 20-year old kid who only made weight from being malnourished. He had no business even fighting at that weight. Anyone disagrees should do the math. He jumped from Flyweight (112) to Super Bantamweight (122). That's 3 weight classes in only 3 months time.
Same violation, but two totally different situations. I am sure Floyd had trouble making weight since coming out of retirement, but the fact that he was fighting a smaller man and still came in over the two pounds over the limit is more of an advantage than Pac's situation. Pac was fighting a guy his size, came in one pound overweight, but he was still weight drained.

Why do you always get so upset about pac fans saying stuff about floyd? Its been going on for over a year now and will keep going this is nothing new so why keep asking these questions anytime pac fans say anything bad about floyd. *****s are just as bad about talking **** about manny so you should complain about them as well.

One way or another there's no way to find out if it was deliberate but they BOTH had advantages in their fights.

At that stage of his career, pac was far from the star that he was now. At that point, his title was very important to him and as I said he was able to come in at 113 which indicated that he cut weight and tried to make the weight.
If he planned to cheat then why did he come in at 113? Why not come at 115 or even higher? He would still lose his title and would probably be stronger. IMO, he tried to make the weight. Finally realized he couldn't make it and lost his title and was penalized and ultimately lost by KO.
