Pacquiao Wants To Fight Cotto For The WBC Diamond Belt
Collapse

I beleive it is time for the Boxers to stand up for themselves and set their own rules and that's why i'm proud of Cotto and his stands on this matter.
After all what people are interest in seeing and what sells ticket is the boxers that are killing each other in the ring not the belts they have. for all it matter in this era, with so many sanction bodies (almost all of them ar corrupt anyway) anybody can be a "Champion".
All they need to have a fight is a boxing commision that looks after the rules to be followed and we have that all around the world. If the Promoters do their own marketing with the TV then who the hell will need the WBO, WBC etc....
Let's get real, will you think that Pacman-Cotto will need a belt on the line to sell? Better of, will you think that somebody will not watch PBF-Pacquiao fight just becasue a belt not being involved. Hell even the ****** Presidents of the titles not being involved will watch these fight.
I know that The belts are part of the tradition in Boxing and it was a good tradition but with these ****** "Pesidents" and the amount of available belts per category these belts dont have the same meaning any more. Now we have a ****** Pesident (VARCARCEL) that wants his WW champion (Cotto) to put his title on the line in a limited WW class. Yes limited because WW is UP TO 147 not UP TO 145.
Then we have a new ****** President (Sulaiman) that wants to give a belt out for a weight class that doen't exist.
And this is all to cash in and have their organization names on a card that will be sold to the fans by the boxers, not by any of the titles that these boxers might or might not represent.
I wonder what will come next.Last edited by prsi; 08-07-2009, 05:56 PM.

**** sanctioning bodies. They are just ****ing up the sport even further. Confusing, needless and classless.

Second, yes i do agree that there was some verbal agreement, but i'm not quite positive how the verbal agreement exactly went down. Manny could've easily agreed with the 145lbs and then the no title was mentioned, and then Manny says "okay, let's talk about it and lets make a deal". I'm not saying that's what happened, i'm just giving an example of how it could've easily been misinterpreted. Do you follow me know. But lets just say he did agree verbaly that the belt is not on the line, the fact that there is no contract signed, any fighter can change his mind and re-negotiate. I don't see a problem with that and i truly believe it is still ethical to do so. The beauty of this whole thing is, Cotto don't have to take this ****, he could easily walk away from this and make his statement, done end of story. But i don't see anything wrong with Manny wanting to fight for the title and the 2lbs is really a none issue for Cotto. Because again, he stated already that 145lbs is the normal weight that he goes down to for the weigh in and he'll gain 10lbs easily the next day for any of his Welterweight fights. What ever reason Cotto has for standing his ground on the weight issue of 147lbs, i agree with it as well and he has every right to do so. But if i was Cotto, just walk away from this , because if he's going to play a pissing contest with this, i don't think he's going to win, he can, but i doubt it. The bargaining chips and advantage is leaning way too much on Manny's side. JMHO.
From now on, I'll just do my usual...hehehe
