    In regards to Johnson/Langford - Mayweather/Canelo comparison.

So a hundred years from now will people say that Mayweather's (Johnson) legacy is tarnished because he fought Canelo (Langford) too early in Alvarez's career?

No doubt Canelo is a far more exciting fighter to watch; now Mayweather (just like JJ, overly defensive) is turning himself into a freak show.

Will he make voo doo signs at Jake Paul?

That is the beauty of the historical lense. Sometimes when viewing the work of a great painter, one has to step back... then some of the genius reveals itself. I can think of no better analogy for looking at Mayweather 100 years from now.

Probably not because Mayweather was also older and at the later end of his career.

I think 100 years from now people will look back on Canelo (at least his early years because who know what he may do from here on out) and wonder why he fought so many big names past their prime. Kind of opposite of what you are saying.

Look at his last decade of work, draw a line at those he fought that were 35 or older. Yeah i know arbitrarily round number, but i think close to being an apt marker for being past prime (in general).

Who are his best wins of under 35? Compare that to the names who were 35 and older. Numerous HOFers in the old group, none so far (that i can see) in the young.

Specifically regarding the Mayweather fight, i see it just as much as May being past prime as Canelo being green. Mix in the natural weight class differences, momeys prime probably under welter, canelo apparently above mw, and i feel thats a material enough difference to negate the langford v johnson comparison.

Very little inertia in lil' Floyd's style. In other words, a very organized state of matter. People idolize and idealize highly organized states of matter.
