It is too bad that it was a Fitz promotion and not Rickard. It looks as though Fitz put much effort into promoting the sparing session with the press but in 1920 he probably didn't have the foresight (or maybe the money) to film the sparring.

But I would suggest that there is a better chance of that sparing session existing than any of his fights (save Jim Jacobs insistence he saw three frames of Greb-Tunney I once.)

That week Fitz really looked to make a big deal of Greb being in camp -- the Miske undercard included Greb , Langford, and Tate (Dempsey's sparing partner.)

This is also when Fitz (supposedly) told Greb to win a few quick ones and he would make a Dempsey fight. But Dempsey jumped to Rickard and Brennan/Carpentier.

Who knows. Maybe some old fart somewhere dies and they raid his stash and find something that he may have even forgot existed....but I doubt it. Don't think we'll ever see Greb in a fight unfortunately.

What was the claim about what happened to the Greb-Tunney film? The medium used deteriorated or something like that?

Yeah, I'm sitting this one out myself. Too funny. Mentioning Dempsey on here is like shouting "fire" in a crowded theater now, except instead of running out, they come running in like a stampede, lol. See you on the other threads my friend.

No clue on what happened to it - all Jacob's says it that he saw three frames clipped to a copyright petition but knew nothing else about it.

That's it though. I reckon Dempsey over Greb solely because Greb got frustrated with Dempsey and the training team because Dempsey didn't let him look good where as Panama had plenty of situations he looked good in.

Most of the reports I've seen from their sparring say Greb got the better of it. Not sure if you saw the thread where this was discussed before, but there were a myriad of articles that seemed to confirm it.

The dude in on like nearly every page of sundowners man. I didn't notice any prior dempsey-greb stuff because I was a bit burnt out on ol' jack. I was reading about panama, dude was like a 135er, I had no idea he'd have anything to do with Greb or Dempsey but here we are. Pretty much anyone who was anyone in boxing anywhere near Jack's career has a Jack Dempsey story. I thought I was bringing something fresh to the section's favorite topic not beating a dead horse. My bad.


If BattlingNelson has the ability to I won't fuss over this thread being combined into a larger Dempsey-Greb thread.


We might even should make a thread of dempsey thread links and sticky the bastard. Rename the whole section simply "Dempsey"
