  • I can't speak to the referee.

The nudge you refer to is what I am saying should not win you a round.

But mine is a very different type of opinion that has been dead since 1930. The fans and the gamblers today want a winner and so we score close rounds even if all we can see...

  • I would say Mayweather landed the cleaner punches (mostly counters).

Maidana was more than just the agressor, he controlled the pacing of thd fight.

I am a guy who does not believe in scoring 10-9 rounds, so in my purist universe (based on these highlights) I would score this...

  • Interesting 'What if . . ."

Duran beats Leonard twice. Duran makes millions fighting Hearns. Hearns too big for Duran. Leonard beats Hearns and is back on track for greatness. If he wants it.

It should only push the Hearns fight back two years from '81 to '83.

  • We're talking about a guy who actually had the expensive seats empty out during a title defense.

He could make any fight a snoozer if he wanted and as time wore on, the hype wore thin. But there was lots of money before the fans realized there would be no drama, no excitement.

I too like the late 70s to early 80s as a bright spot for the LHWs.

I'm not a resum?guy but the LHWs dominated the drama during that period. Lots of pick-'um fights that actually happen and didn't disappoint when they happened.

They filled the gap with Ali gone and Holmes...

  • One paper says no effect the other effect.

You chose the newspaper that fit your agenda.

This is like taking Fox News' opinion of an event over CNN's opinion of the same event.

It only serves to expose your bias. It doesn't get you anywhere near the truth. ...

  • IDK but I always like to call that 'good management,' so long as the money flows. It's prize fighting. Always make the move best for you....

  • There is no doubt they wrote in 'purple prose' about everything during that period, politics, scandals, murders, and of course boxing.

But just to give them a little space, and excuse, those sports writers often had something we don't have, the emotional, edgy, experience of live anticipation...
