The cost of college went way up while wages didn't follow in line.

So you have kids entering the workforce making what people made 20 years ago with 10x the debt.

I was floored when hearing what tuition cost these days.

        It's definitely a racket.

I don't know if the answer is forgiveness as somebody has to pay for it.

The answer is to tell these schools that's to much money and ask why they've raised costs.

So the fed hands out to loans and the schools know this and raise the cost. There's many ways to get a degree. But some just have to have that big school experience.

Now if you're going to school to be a doctor or lawyer then do what you gotta do. But a degree for something like fine arts? Yeah no. But you are all adults. You entered a contract knowing the price. No one tricked you. You made a choice and now pay up.

If this is forgiven than lets forgive all child support debt too. i don't have kids and never will but its a shame how america has a debtors prison for child support but no other debt. men who fall behind on CS payments are thrown in jail with killers and rapists. what message does that send? not payin a bill makes u a crimnal.. if thats the case lets treat ALL debt that way. and if we forgive one lets forgive all.

Seeing as how that won't happen... get ***ed kids. You shouldn't be rewarded for your lazyiness/poor choices in life.

Don't buy something you can't afford.

You learn that in grade school.

No. They made their decision and took on the debt, not me. Why should I or any other tax payer pay for it and bail them out? .............Rockin'

The cost of college has risen over 1100% in the last 40 years. 4x the CPI.Which is just off the charts bonkers. The reason is multi pronged and the answer to fix it is going to be a combination of things. Some of which probably won't even have anything to do with education, directly.

Colleges need to get rid of classes for degrees that largely end up being participation rewards and utterly useless in the real world.

Government needs to take a big step back on loans and make a bigger investment in trade schools. Though that would almost certainly end up increasing the cost of trade/technical schools, because the economic consequences are the same, you are just shifting things. Not sure there is a great answer here.

People need to have realistic expectations. If you have a 100 IQ, you obviously aren't dumb, but you don't belong in college, at least not with a loan.

People also need to realise that a degree follows economic law in that the more of something there is, the less demand there is for it. So if you have 5000 degrees in biology, but there are 2000 jobs, 3000 people have a near useless degree. All they have done is driven down the salary of the job with excess degrees.

And I'm sure there are things I have no clue on.
