I think they should offer some volunteer type options to pay it off instead of just straight cash, but if they just canceling college debt than why not house, car or medical debt too?
Yes I’m in favor of it. I still have some student debt left but it’s very little but that’s not the reason why I’m in favor. The reason is because student loan debt has financially handicapped millions of kids coming out of college. Paying a mortgage out of school severely limits what you can do financially in regards to starting a family and buying a home.
I think it doesn't address the real problem. We'll be talking about cancelling it again in 4 years time. College costs an insane amount and we're on the verge of schools realizing they are going to have to justify their cost / provide clearer return on investment / lower their cost.
Will it unburden young folk enough to stimulate the economy? Sure, but probably not by enough to justify the cost of doing it.

If you can't afford a supercar don't buy it. You knew how much it would cost from the start.

Young adults should actually work a little more first after high school to save up $$ and then attend school so when they graduate they ain’t flat broke still and now in debt, especially with a degree that ain’t worth $h!t.

It’s a little different regarding college. You need a bachelors degree for majority of jobs today, it’s a catch 22. Kids are almost forced to go for more school if they want to get any decent job that’s not a trade or sales job unfortunately.
For instance in today’s climate you pretty much need a college degree to go into business, journalism, teaching, engineering, science, biology, geology, computer engineering, software engineering any form of IT, etc...
How do you tell a kid no you can’t follow your dream, don’t go to college.

If you want to make more money you say you need to pay more money? Makes sense to me.
BTW every job my wife has had has required a degree. She doesn't have one and gets hired no problem. We were told she would never be able to be general manager at Kohl's unless she had a degree. Wrong.
My point is if you NEED a degree because you want to make more money then you have to lay for it. Makes perfect sense to me.
Btw my wife was making 160k a year at Kohl's. All our friends that had a degree didn't even make that lol. Nothing beats experience and companies know that.
