Make sure you watch this in full screen and 1080p :

that's better cinematography than most movies being made today with all the modern technology at hollywood's disposal. the swordplay is a bit sloppy though.

the shift after WW2 is what i call the demasculation of Japan... hyper consumerism, the rejection of all things that connote war or aggressiveness. i see the same things going on in the post-cold war EU, but to a much greater extent and consequence. passiveness, self-loathing, no pride in one's country or culture and blind eagerness to submit to foreign and lesser ones. but i digress, this is a thread about samurai movies.

... after the WWII it wasn't a "shift"... it was a "collapse"...

Seems more accurate to me than ninja warrior or some shlt lol

When you're in a duel with someone with a katana, and you're inches away from getting sliced open and possibly losing your life in an extremely painful way, you're not going to jump in like ****ing batman and start doing acrobatics.

not expecting ninja warrior batman ****. it's sloppy on basic swordsmanship. overreaching, wild swinging and random angle blocks by both guys. pleb mistakes that samurai wouldn't make. the guy in the light robe fights like he's half speed drunk lol. granted these are probably real swords and not modern movie swords so the actors are just trying to do their damn best not to accidentally kill each other.
