Truly sad how the party that promoted freedom of speech and demonstration for so many decades is now trying to cut off it's nose to spite it's face. The ********ic party was the party of progress, and now it's simply become a black hole.
If you think about it, free speech is a fundamental human right. If we deny people the right to free speech - in essence- we would denying people basic human rights.

The suicide button was pressed a couple of generations ago. People are just in denial. You cannot reverse outcomes like this.

You can either balkanize or sink with the ship. I concentrate pretty much all of my political effort on balkanization movements.

          Ask and you shall receive.

Washington, DC – Today, Senator Elizabeth Warren rolled out the first program among ********ic Party candidates to address the epidemic of hate speech sweeping the nation.

“It’s been two weeks since the attack in El Paso was precipitated by the release of a hate-filled manifesto on the Internet,” said Senator Warren. “We know that hate speech causes stress, and we know that chronic stress can be harmful to health. Hate speech is therefore violence, and it must be prevented.”

Her plan to address hate speech is multifaceted and has been developed with experts on speech and violence. At its core is the new requirement that in order to post or share anything on the Internet, Americans must obtain a Free Speech License from the Federal Communications Commission. Acquiring a Free Speech License will require a background check, a mental health consult with a licensed psychologist, an examination of the applicant’s social media accounts for the last ten years, and a nominal fee to cover the cost of the new FSL department within the FCC.

Expecting pushback, she couches her plan in practical terms. “After all, a license is required to drive a car, and Congress should establish a similarly straightforward federal licensing system for the purchase of any type of Internet-enabled device,” read her plan.

Her plan also includes the expansion of extreme risk protection laws to encompass speech, saying ERPOs should allow families and law enforcement to temporarily restrict access to telecommunications devices for individuals in crisis or at elevated risk of communicating hate speech to others. She also wants to ban anyone convicted of a hate crime from accessing the internet. Additionally, if enough people sign a Change.org petition to “red flag” a certain individual, the matter will be brought before a judge. If the judge agrees, US Marshals or other designated law enforcement officials would seize all communication devices owned by the subject.

Hardware restrictions are also on the table. Older communication devices, like printing presses and quills, won’t be affected by her plan. But high bandwidth devices that can transmit dozens or even hundreds of pages of poorly written manifestos at once would be under extreme scrutiny. “There is no need for anyone to be able to harm so many people so quickly with hateful words,” read the last sentence of her plan.

Reactions have been mixed. “I found it kind of weird that her plan consisted entirely of restrictions on speech and yet it never once mentioned the First *********,” said radio host Ben Shapiro. On the other hand, comedienne Samantha Bee remarked, “It’s about time we started demanding real, legislative solutions to get rid of the racist monsters that are dominating this country with their hate speech.”

Warren closed her plan with a strong call to action. “Together, we can build on this momentum. We can build a grassroots movement to take back the Senate, eliminate the filibuster, and pass federal speech safety legislation that will save lives. And from the White House, I’ll make sure that Big Tech and their cronies are held accountable with executive action. If we turn our heartbreak and our anger into action, I know we can take the power from Big Tech and the lawmakers in their pockets and return it to the people.”

Wow, I did not see this and am surprised ************* aren't all over this.

I don't know how dems think they can win back the WS with these kinds of policies, but then again, I didn't realize the majority of this country wants to get rid of, or modify, free speech.

Its true most people don't understand free speech that it relates to the government passing laws that restrict what you can say.

It doesn't cover how individuals and companies etc react to what you say, which is what a lot of people think.

Eg. if you get banned from a forum for being a ****head that's breaking the 1st *********/free speech laws. Its not.

also in employment, no one has free speech. You cant go round abusing customers or workmates and then say but free speech ?

So if people think that the law is you can say anything to anyone without consequences then its not surprising they want to change it.

Id be for "banning" hate speech if there was a reasonable way to do it. Thing is there isnt that I can see. Hate speech is too in the eye of the beholder. You can say a slur to one person & they cry & then to another person & they dgaf.

Its not quite the same as yelling fire in a crowded theater basically. If it was as straight forward as yelling fire in a theater or trying to incite violence through speech then it might make sense.

Basically doing anything like this would be like making name calling illegal which I think most would find a humerous thing to do.
