They usually get 4-5 bill in military aid a year.
Part of the deal to secure their peace treaty many many years ago.
2. They usually get used, surplus equipment or new stuff bought from us defense companies.

The Egypt too.
Iirc it was part of the peace treaty we signed with them.
Egypt and Israel signs a peace deal and in exchange we supply both with arms.
I think it was jimmy Carter that made that deal. Not sure.
Both are very useful allies in that region.

They should be donating the 4.5 billion, not the hard-working taxpayers struggling to pay for their homes.

At least with Israel they develop and test technology like the Iron Dome and share the technology with the US. They got there money back from the Iron Dome alone.

Originally posted by Lords View Post********* is a crazy guy, we don't need to continue funding this ***ers millitary aid to the sum of billions of our tax dollars, and I don't care if he's our ally. We have places in our own country that don't even have clean water to drink yet we're providing these countries all this money so they can go buy weapons. Yes, I do know that Israel buys weapons from us, who cares.
Now imagine it didn't exist and the US wanted to have a presence in the region with adequate personnel and equipment and bases to serve their interests. How much do you think that would cost and where would they get the personnel to do it...and where would they station it? All of the sudden the money doesn't seem so much...and that doesn't even take into consideration things like the Iron Dome which they have as a result and other technological developments they benefit from.
Also the US intends to start pumping oil out of the Golan Heights soon and I'd imagine they would want Israel's defensive abilities to be even more secure when they start doing so.
It's a big world and when you want to control most of it you need powerful friends in many places. I'm not saying Israel's army is there solely to serve the US's interests of course...but if they were not there then the US would be spending that money anyways to compensate to some degree for not having such an ally...and it would be way more complicated for them to do so without the geography to do it from. And the reason there are places in the US without clean drinking water has nothing to do with it and wouldn't change otherwise.Last edited by jaded; 09-15-2016, 05:17 AM.
