The black folk wanting blacks to be nominated haven't seen movies like Room, The Revenant (probably couldn't spell it or wouldn't know what it means) and don't know who actors like Mark Rylance or Brie Larson are.

They just want their affirmative action Oscar. They were expecting actors from Straight outta Compton to be nominated, and in reality, of all of those actors in that movie, Paul Giamatti was the better actor in that movie. And even he didn't deserve to be nominated.

Maybe next year they get the token black nomination for Kevin Hart and Ride Along 2

He's a jerkoff, he always has that ****-eating grin and acts all high and mighty. Who does he think he is? He acts like a ****** telling lame racial jokes, what a nobel prize winner.

I find it hard to care since black people only make the issue about themselves and ignore every other group. What about us Latinos? We're a much larger group in the US and never get any respectable acting roles. When is the last time a Mexican or Puerto Rican got nominated for an acting role? It doesn't happen very often unlike Black people who have been nominated and honored countless times. What about Asian Americans? The #oscarsowhite "controversy" is only about black people, they couldn't give a crap about anybody else not included.

I just had to look up a video, it was bullshit.

Superficially edgy jokes with the undertone of "we've made social progress."

I'm a leftist in the vein of Vladimir Lenin.

American and European '********' can suck my balls.

The major point is about opportunities. There are certain roles that can only cast actors of a particular color. We all get that. What Rock and others are talking about is opportunities when the color of the character is neutral.

Example-James Bond or Jack Ryan or Ethan Hunt.

I thought the story he told about what he said to President ***** was particularly compelling. If writers are the backbone of movies (and TV) perhaps if they hired more diverse people (color and where they went to undergrad) maybe you would see more diverse stories and characters.

Its not just black actors but all actors of color that deal with this issue.

In the end, Hollywood makes films mostly to make money. In that respect, its understandable why so many roles go to white actors-they have proven to be bankable and make profit.

there are lots of roles where the race of the actor doesn't matter, latinos and blacks don't get those roles even though there are many very gifted actors in both races

i thought "the white people's choice awards" comment was funny, and the joke about will smith. him and jada need to stop whining, his performance in concussion wasn't oscar worthy, but idris elba's was, he got robbed at least of a nomination

This is thing.....what makes a white actor bankable more than a non-white actor? I love Indian movies, but my Indian friend hates them, but love black movies. If a person can't watch a movie if the actor/actress is non-white, therein lies the problem.
