Did you go to College/Uni? If so how did it work out for you?

    It's funny,
I've spoken to alot of people recently within my profession. So many of them come from so many different educational backgrounds and I am amazed as to where they end up.

One guy in my job (A salesmen - a good one too,) studied medicine, Another colleague of mine is a personal trainer - he has a masters in Law.

Then their is a fully trained mechanic who is the highest earning sales men in our company for the last 2 years.

My questions is - Did you go to college? What did you think of it when you got your degree? Do you use your degree?

Same question goes to the people who didn't go to college.

I am all in favor of degrees, I think above all else they show an extremely good work ethic especially at young age.

best 3 years of my life by far.

Undecided on whether i will end up following a profession to do with my degree.

But even if end up a bum i will never regret the time i spent at Uni.

I have been to University, did a BA in Sociology and Criminology and a MSc in Human Resource Management (and a CIPD industry qualification with it). I was not ready for the world of work full time when I graduated with my BA, was confused as to where I would study and stuff but I knew what I wanted to do when I did my MSc. It's a tough profession to enter though for sure (HR, that is). Currently doing a HR internship at a College in a bid to make myself more employable both from a CV point of view and a knowledge point of view.

I went to college when I was 15, because I got kicked out of school, so I enrolled in a construction course, where we doneabit of everything, bricke, joiner, plumber etc, at the end of it all, I got myself a painting and decorating apprenticeship, I didn't want it tho, I wanted to be a brickie, but **** happens. painting decorating didnt work out, made the wrong decision, and paid for it.

I did a degree in civil engineering and work in civil engineering/groundworks, the older guys are fond of telling me how they just left school and started work in this field but that was the 70's/80's and this is now, you wouldn't be considered for my job anymore without a degree so I am glad I did it or I'd be delivering packages for fedex for a living or some dead end job like that because that's what you get leaving school these days.

I learned alot and I am glad I went to school, but as far as the whole you-need-a-degree-to-do-this-and-that, spare me the nonsense, the job I have I could have done before spending a day in school just as easily as I can do it now, it's all politics, experience and networking are infinitely more valuable than a piece of paper on the wall, in my experience.

Loved the social life. Got me a job you can't get without my specific degree, although it's justan arts degree. Was it worth it? Of course. Theirs no other way. Statistics have been out for a long time. You make far, far, far more money the more educated you are.

Their simply is no argument against it. You just can't. And of course their are other avenues.

I got a diploma from college after 3 years I transferred to university and got a degree, bachelor of commerce. In my work I need to have a high school diploma or such equivalency.

I spent a lot of money on college and university, I did learn a lot. I learned French and Spanish and at my job now it's essential that I speak French. So I can't say it was a waste of time but it's just sitting in my back pocket.
