I have BS in Engineering. See my post history if you want to know how much I make in a year. So yes, it worked out very well for me. College is serious business and not a hobby. So don't take philosophy or history or some sh.it were you'd end up unemployed with huge student loan.

I have been to University, did a BA in Sociology and Criminology and a MSc in Human Resource Management (and a CIPD industry qualification with it). I was not ready for the world of work full time when I graduated with my BA, was confused as to where I would study and stuff but I knew what I wanted to do when I did my MSc. It's a tough profession to enter though for sure (HR, that is). Currently doing a HR internship at a College in a bid to make myself more employable both from a CV point of view and a knowledge point of view.
Nobody will take you serious until you're at least 30.

What it all comes down to is what Major and if there is a demand for the skills you are acquiring. Computer Science/Engineering grads always seem to do very well and same with CPAs (Accounting).

I too would have loved to study something like History, but seriously would I expect to be employed at an office? Burger flipper yes, but not a job where at the very least I can have a decent middle class living standard.

I don't look down upon any job or human, but if you are attending Uni then make sure it pays off unless you have piles of $ sitting around just to enlighten yourself debating Philosophy at a University.

Yes, I am in the process and it seems it is going to work out well as my skills are in demand.

False. With arts degrees it depends largely on the quality of the institution.

To answer PB's question: University is incredible. The memories I will take away are more valuable than anything else, but of course having the "piece of paper" ain't so bad either.

I'm starting a Physics degree in October. I chose this course because I really enjoy the subject and I've been told by numerous sources that the skills acquired during the degree program make one very employable.
