the scarface story has so many more levels. lol at the dude in good fellas spilling drugs all over the waiting room and not even getting busted in a federal prison.
You have no idea how the Mafia works, do you? Either that or you weren't paying attention to the movie at all.
Being a 'true story' doesn't make it original though. My daily shop at my local convenience store is a true story but I would describe it as a original concept. I'm pretty sure that Scarface was one of the first major films that depicted a Cuban gangster in the beautiful southern state of Florida.
cuban refugee/gangster comes to the us with no chance and is stuck with all the other fools coming over (sent to us specifically by castro) and has to murder a political prisoner to get out of the camps. he does this and has work as a dishwasher. then he gets a chance to enter the violent drug market, situation happens with colombians. he immediately uses his balls to go over his small time boss' head to meet the main guy. then he navigates the tricky road of corrupt cops, gangsters, and a double crossing of his boss. he becomes so high on the gangster life he becomes paranoid and destroys his relationships with his sister and wife and goes down in flames.
(also, please remind me what other movies had the same story? as I can name some that are very similar to goodfellas).
To each his own, man. I just think Good Fellas is much better with a much more interesting plot. The characters in Scarface are just boring, IMO and I didn't get attached to any of them so I didn't even really care who got killed or what happened. Good Fellas was much more engaging for me.
Like I said before, I don't dislike Scarface. I just feel that it is vastly overrated and that's why I may be coming off as a bit harsh in my criticism. I've watched Scarface 10 times or so, so obviously I don't hate it.

Kaps and ground st pound are smart. But they ain't that smart.
Pls find a Cuban ******* gangster movie released before scarface.
For every one, I'll find you 10 Italian mob movies. Goodfellas is based on a true story. Big fn deal. On top of that Henry hill is a lying scumbag self serving rat. He lies about so much crap and has been caught in numerous lies. Make no mistake about it, goodfellas is BASED on a true story. It's not 100% accurate. Think about it, if they made a movie based on a rapper coming in the ****** getting arrested and having a hard life them making it big, it might be true, but that doesn't make it an original movie.
Scarface is all action packed. It's the ultimate gangster/action movie. Goodfellas on the other hand is a cinematical masterpiece in every way. My pick is Goodfellas.
Scarface could be about 20 minutes shorter and nothing would be missed. It's a good flick but Goodfellas is better in just about everyway. Both are ATG Gangster movies IMO...

Just because there hasn't been a cuban gangster movie doesn't make it original. There a million rags to riches and coming up movies that existed before Scarface. Where the guy hails from is irrelevant, the concept is not original.
Goodfellas, while not entirely accurate is based on true bad-assery.

I respect that opinion, I was just replying to
you saying that scarface had no story. The storyline was epic. Anyway, I have both in my top 10 of all time, so I'm a huge fan of both of them. I know pretty much every line of them.
Scarface is much more in depth and I thnk that bores some people. Which is fine. I just don't think it should be ****ted on because when it came out it was groundbreaking, like nothing else before. Also, goodfellas is based on a true story from a lying scumbag rat. That doesn't make it an original story.
