When Beckham signed for Galaxy the Madrid board dropped him from the team and people for that was it, but they were wrong. He played so well in the little time he did get that Capello had to play him, Madrid won the title for the first time in 4 years and Madrid wanted him to stay, they tried to prevent the transfer to Galaxy happening. You can't call him overpriced either, he was primarily responsible for $600 million in merchandise during his time at Madrid.

Owen only got 15 starts for Madrid but scored 18 goals and was the highest scorer for minutes played, he wasn't a flop just wasn't popular enough to get a regular starting spot.

I honestly don't care if English clubs progress in the Champions League other than Arsenal. In fact, I'd love them all to get knocked out straight away - that yank fool who thinks the Bundesliga is "stronger" just because it was an all German final should check the previous few years when English sides were constantly there.
