        The golden generation was the likes of..

        Seamen..Campbell/terry.. Ferdinand.. G.neville.. Ashley Cole
        Beckham.. Scholes.. Lampard/Gerrard
        Owen and Rooney

        Probably at there peak between 2002 to 2006 Since then either a lot of them retired or declined..

        it's no coincidence since then we failed to qualify for the Euros..

        Got humiliated second round by Germany after going life and death vs Usa.. Slovakia.. and Algeria..

        An ok performance in the following Euros but outclassed by italy

        Another humiliating World Cup barely scraping a point and finishing bottom of a not particularly hard group

          So can we all finally admit Jack Wilshere was a complete and utter hypejob and a dime a dozen in la liga?.

          Most of us have known this for years but the Arsenalfans have still been fooling themselves that he's some English Xavi.

            Yes they are without a doubt better.. how is that even a debate?

            What has this new gen done to prove otherwise? They bombed at the last World Cup..

            Maybe some have potential like sterling and Kane but they have barely got one good season under there belts and your acting like they are better then European cup winners and multiple premier league winners.. its absurd. Henderson isnt fit to clean Paul Scholes boots let alone match him on a football field

            What have Barkley and Delph done at club level.. Barkley has barely had a full proper season in his career..

            The "golden generation" certainly underachieved but they are far more prven then this lot

              This is exactly the point english players have one good season or even half a season and you have people hyping them as the next Xavi..

              How can you say the likes of delph.. henderson.. barkley.. sterling are better then players like scholes.. gerrard (who I hate).. etc who have proven themselves over 10-15 years

                Wilshere has the potential, nobody can deny that. Injuries have derailed his career though.

                Don't think he'll ever be the player he could have been.

                      It might make sense if we had a team of established players and were missing a specialist holding midfielder. Hodgson should be clearing the decks.

                      The expectation to qualify is no longer enough. It is a given. He needs to provide an identity going forward based on pace, power and athleticism. I think he tried get us to play more like Spain. When really England should play more like a prime Borussia Dortmund than anything. Press high, press fast. No more watching Italy pass us of the park.

                      Italy aren't even good. England have better players nearly everywhere apart from Veratti.
