Ok seriously, yu may appreciate this, being that it is a departure from constitutional issues regarding voting rights. Traditionally in many areas, Voting precincts were really really dangerous places. They were often used as appointments to settle scores, and people were allowed to canvas in the open. I know this because in my wife's side of my family, her great grandfather, despite not being a Blood, a Crip, or one of those thug type (being sarcastic), had a monumental shoot out with another man and his two sons, He killed the man and his boys, and he was killed. It stemmed from an earlier episode where wifey's great grandfather's son was attacked in the fields and knifed (he lived) by the two sons.
The thing is, this type of conflict was common at polling stations. Drive by, ambush, *******... was around way before inner city youth were considered the pinnacle of "savage," a term that dehumanizes what are essentially, kids... Tameney hall was the same behavoir in the cities...
My point in mentioning this: The main roadblock to voting was intimidation and fear. It has always been. Id issues are in many respects a red herring... People could get id's more easily if they were mandatory and given out automatically.
