It's not about the player. The whole thing is the public just needs an excuse to watch. When it gets play at a proper time people can begin to care about it and follow it... although obviously if better players are signed in general it will make the league more watchable.

I can't be the only person in America who is lulled to sleep with in min of the begining of a Soccer game. It's boring, Takes too long to score and scores are too far between. Americans like action if you haven't figureed that out yet.

....Again, it will never create a huge interest or develop a huge following in this country for the reasons you stated. Get rid of that ****** offsides **** and it would become a game worth watching. Goal contenders would need a whole slew of psychologists but the game would be more entertaining offensively.

And millions of people in the US can't watch Golf, Baseball, Hockey, or Nascar yet they find ways to stay in the public eye. There are enough people in the united states to hate those sports and enough to watch it to keep them up and afloat. I'm pretty sure we can manage to find 20 million tv's to turn on a soccer game.

I didn't say nobody would watch. **** You could take the number of illegal immigrants in this country whom for the most part eat and breath soccer and get enough ratings to assure it a spot on T.V somewhere. That doesn't mean it's becoming main stream. Marketing execs need more than numbers you know they need numbers of those who spend money. ie. Golf for existance. Who watches and plays golf?? upper middle to upper class Americans who spend more than anyother class.
see where I'm going with this. Who watches Baseball and Nascar? An evern larger base of some of the same people plus.
              NOw, who watches soccer?

I just don't think he'll be able to do it. Something will eventually. Perhaps Freddy Adu (sp?) when he gets a little older.
                Lmao @ Over the hill.

He can still carry Real Madrid and England.

I really hate how people sell Beckham short. Not to mention an AMERICAN. No one in the MLS could **** with Beckham.

**** Posh. She ruined Beckhams legend status.

As for Americans liking the sport. I don't see the need to push it on them. If they like it, good. If they don't, good.

It's not so much a challenge of getting us to like it. (which I don't) It is getting companies to buy advertising time during matches. I would say that force feeding it with celebrity icons like Beckham is exactly the way to go about it. Make it more of a pop culture thing. The trendy elite will be sporting L.A Galaxy jersey's soon enough.
