Once a fighter has learned to use his eyes he doesn't need to just instantly run away. Take a step to the side, dig acouple more then maybe exit with the jabs. Hit and run away is entirely European/Monty Python.
Any problems that I might have attained boxing were attained as a professional. I wanted to fight that way at the time and I did just that, pitbull aggressive, with many world class fighters.
