His right arm had been slightly dislocated earlier in the fight and pushed back in between rounds. But come round six and it happens again...

Having fought prior to training boxers has nothing to do with being an effective trainer. Learning method and techniques has nothing to do with a former career in the ring. Most fighters turned trainers tend to be one dimentional in their approch to molding a young fighter they usually do a better job when brought in to work with a fighter with simular style and skill set to theirs. There used to be trainers that were brought in for specific techniques that needed to be developed or finishing touches applied. Men like Dundee excelled as cornerman and stratigest and thats what most fans know him by but Angelo put in more time at the gym than most people ever have. He had a pretty good career prior to Ali and was first known as a very good cutman. You don't need to build a house first to become an architect, you need to study angles both arm positions and foot postionings. Then develope offense and defense skills and be able to relate to a variety of personalities. If you have alot of experience but lack in teaching skills then your not going to do well. Theres always a second to the head trainer who often times is the buffer between trainer and fighter. Having a ton of knowledge or being a great fighter doesn't mean your a great teacher. If the fighters in a certain gym are sucessfull then the program must be a good one regardless where the knowledge was learned. Ray.

Well said Ray, although only someone who hadn't laced em up would say it Many of the great trainers of Gleasons weren't pro fighters yet they consistently produced the greatest fighters in history. How is that so if they havent fought? It's not about having fought, it's about bringing out the potential of a fighter. You do that by communication and knowing how to impart that knowledge. One thing that you also said Ray is incredibly true. Often those who fought feel that their way is the only way and are unable to train based on a specific students needs. They are too set in their ways to be able to train a fighter to that exact persons needs and strengths.

It's the same in any field of teaching. If you have the gift of communicating and getting through to your student, you will be an excellent trainer/teacher.

Rockin, I was still wondering whether you feel as though the trainers mentioned, Clancy, Arcel, Dundee, D'Amato etc could have taught you anything about training fighters?

You had a few fights at the so called pro level against a few guys who also had one or two fights. They didnt. Does that give you something that having taught and worked with fighters like Charles, Marciano, Buchanan, Duran, Griffith, Ali, Leonard, Rodriguez.......etc etc etc doesn't?

Yeah you guys are right, being a fighter doesn't mean ****. I mean look at Freddie Roach, John Scully, Floyd and Roger Mayweather, Buddy Mcgirt, etc. All one dimensional, know nothing trainers who have experienced little to no success...........Rockin'

Rockin', that post of yours makes about as much sense as that time when you told me you weren't gay when you had Joseph Freytag's cock in your mouth.

Have you watched the Danny Williams vid or what, ****?

I was sarcasticly countering a statement of former fighters who became trainers. They said that they were one dimensional, etc.

Don't you get sick of watching british heavyweights getting sparked out? I'll still watch the clip and get back to you.........Rockin'

See, that's why I love Danny Williams to pieces. He was never a world beater (I dunno if you can understand that concept, Rockin'... just playing...) but he never gives up. Arm out of the socket? **** you, I'm Danny Williams.

Here he is against Mike Tyson. To give this some background, Danny had created a tear in the space-time continuum by pounding on a heavy bag in the gym one day. It caused prime Mike from 1988 to come through the void and challenge Danny. However, so as not to cause a paradox, Tyson looked like he did when he was shot and old - kind of like how Sam Beckett used to resemble the people he'd leap places with in Quantum Leap.

So this is, technically speaking, Tyson's first ever defeat:
