not too bad man...my advice...move..move move....get quicker on ur feet...u seem timid and unsure of movements...anytime he came in to throw combo's u kinda shelled up a bit....learn to "catch" punches...simply turn ur hand over and meet the punch comen in..then learn to counter punch off of that....u dont have to wait for guy to get done throwen to move away..side step him...or take a step back and let him b outta range...i teach footwork, footwork footwork...i feel its key to win fights...lot of coaches have diff strategies and beliefs...thats just mine...angles are gr8..also..punch more w ur hips not ur arms...ur right hand seems to be the main and only punch u really use ur lower body to throw...jab w more intensity and hip...snap it back quicker than it goes out..u can only throw ur next punch when ur first one gets least half way back...

The guy you fought was clearly much more experienced, in fact, I think your coach was a bit ****** for letting you be matched with someone that much older and more experienced. I honestly think your problem may lie in your faith in yourself, maybe its your lack of training too, but when you threw your one-two, you weren't stepping in or snapping the punches, you were more pushing your right hand out.

You've got heart man, I've seen you take two beatings at neither time you quit, so keep it up! Work on your combos and get more faithful in yourself, you'll do alright

Yeah man, just give it a try.

I suggest it because I believe it will help you adjust better to getting hit and seeing punches coming.

You can still jab from that style. Still do jab straights. But this way you will be protected and can gain confidence in throwing punches after being hit.

It's a process. When you first use it. Just try to keep your eyes open, so you can see the punches coming. If you can keep your eyes open. Then you know you have improved.

Yeah its a mode you turn on and off lol!
Get inside and he will eat massive ammount of punishment cus he hasn't learned defense or head movement.
He hasn't been taught combination punching except for the 1-2.
He doesn't have the speed or head movement to get "inside" and he would just eat punches after punches trying to get in.
How is he going to be effective on the inside?
Yes that is a great idea! cuz all you have to do is say "now I'm a inside fighter" thats it!
great advice you gave him "you should have thrown hooks "

          FLICKER= Boxing genius!

Your salty over the MMA thread. Get over it.

It's not about anything you even said. That's all created from your mind; overcomplicating something simple. Your thinking he should automatically be a professional level boxer to in-fight. "you can't do it because you need to know this, this, and this first. And he doesn't know it yet."

While, I advise a different style to help him adjust to being hit and gaining confidence in throwing his own punches. It's all a process...
            1. To NOT close the eyes and/or look down when punches are coming at him.
            2. To see the punches coming without flinching.
            3. To gain confidence in throwing punches back after being hit.
            4. To begin to slip and learn to advance into the desired range.

And I believe the peek-a-boo style or more specific a guard like Clottey can help him accomplish this process. His reflexes aren't fast enough for mid-range boxing. His current punching ability is simply too slow and too tentative to be effective. I believe short hooks would be the better for him to gain confidence in throwing punches. Making the game smaller(ie: less things to worry about doing), he may advance easier and quicker.

If you even watched the video. You can see his jab is hesitant, so is his straight. Then watch him in his shell. He throws the right hook with confidence and IT LANDS TWICE. All these things tell me, he may be better on the inside and using hooks. If the tight guard style helps him adjust easier, then it's a good thing.

He himself even said he is more confident on the inside.

So I don't see what's your deal besides being salty about the MMA thread. Where I told you, you don't know shit about MMA if you believe passed it means overrated.

Is that the gym you're quitting? I think your coach was giving you a send off beating by putting you in with this guy. He's clearly on another level so I'm not sure what you were supposed to take from this spar except that "I can get punched a lot and I won't die", which is worth knowing I guess.

yeah i guess... i did get a good beating but entering something like that was pretty exhilerating, i'd say good experience for me.

                  To Money May,

The guy obviously fed you to a more experienced kid but how could you not throw back. In a USA amatuer bout you would have been stopped much, much earlier as it was apparent that you were outclassed. But still man you have to throw back. Don't get me wrong here because anybody who will step in to really throw fists gains some respect with me but I don't think that you could have done any worse. The only thing that I could think of coming close to it would to be if you had walked in dragging a chain behind you and hung yourself up to work as a punching bag. Look for your opponents rythme while your covered up and he's punching your shoulders, fire right in between his rythme. Roll those shoulders and move that head but most important, use your eyes AND FIRE BACK!!!!!.............Rockin'

hey rockin', i appreciate your advice. guess i'm still scared of getting punched. i'll try to get used to the punches, i really do need to hit back. i don'T know any defense at all, i did learn all the basic blocks and shoulder roll from a coach at the new gym but just practiced it when i went there once. i don't know what anyone means by head movement, i don't know how to do it. do you mean weaving or bobbing? if you are then i have not learned such thing, my coach never told me those kind of stuff and we never, ever go over the drills of defense. all i'm doing at the gym is improving my form, practicing throwing punches as well as increasing speed. also, i have actually bad eyesight not bad enough that i can't see the punches coming though. a bit blurry i guess.
