As far as I know it has a lot to do with body fat percentage and diet. I've also read that it can also be genetic for your whether your stomach muscles show.

But no one here is talking about boxer abs, just defined abs in general and as I said before, abs are already strong muscles, since we constantly using them, and as far as boxing goes, its not as much abs that help you absorb the punch, but the pose of your body. No matter how strong your abs are, if you stay still, a good punch will hurt you, thats why boxers crouch a little.

wrong, strength off abs and breathing technic helps you endure.

**** me, talk about stating the obvious???

Of course you need a low percentage of body fat to make any muscles truly pop but he is talking from a bodybuilding perspective, add in that, all bodybuilders train their abs as a separate body part so.....he is is only speaking half truths.

To get good abs you need to train your abs hard and correctly and have a decent low fat diet and cardio training plan.

From a boxing or even sports point of view, abs training is essential. You must harden your midsection to protect against blows but just as importantly your abs give you your core body strength therefore they must be trained.

That guy is just trying to be clever!

Also training the abs as with any muscles adds direct resistance to the area you are attempting to tone, how many times have you seen guys on the beach with a beer gut but toned arms and shoulders?, therefore to assist the burning of fat around the middle you must train your abs!

I want a strong stomach not just nice looking one. Your stomach is the main souce for strength, if your training with weights or boxing (getting punched in the stomach) sit ups/crunches are important IMO.

Back when I was boxing I was tested for body fat, it was 10% and I was 125lbs.

figthers dont need a good looking six pack, its a side effect from effective training. Fighters need strong core muscles (not just the traditional six pack but obliques, lats etc as well) to improve punching power and absorb body shots. Low body fat should be a side effect of ur training not the main aim.
