My gym is going to be having an amatuer boxing card open to novice and I guess is like an open card gym vs gym type thing on Sat April 15. I just found out yesterday Mar 30. I have been training in and out of the gym, mainly at home for years, never actually had sparring in a gym but Ive had LOTS of street fights and have boxed with gloves on against people instead of fighting. Ive never actually lost a fight were we squared up and fought. Ive got TONS of experience in fighting and I know its not against the same competiton as amateur boxing but I am already at the level where Im very calm and think in the fight, set up combos etc, so this isnt really going to be too new to me. I see it as Ive accomplised lots as far as streetfighting now its time to step up in class and go onto amateur boxing.
Its been my dream to box and I finally decided to get serious about it in January, the thing is that I was around 290 pounds. My whole plan was to drop to ATLEAST 200 because Im only 5'9", start amateur and go on to pro. I trained since January to get back in the swing of things and in the last week I have started to actually diet and cardio to lose weight. I weigh 255 now so itd be super heavy but Im not scared so why not do it.
the way Im looking at it though, WHY SHOULDNT I take advantage of this amateur show being at my gym. Im in better shape than Ive been in inawhile since in the last week I picked it up trying to lose the weight. Win or lose I am now and amateur boxer, and I turn 20 in May so I can say I started amateur at 19. I really would have liked to gotten myself in the abolute best shape because Ive been dreamin about this since I was six, but Im throwing my name in the hat and signing up. Im gonna get some sparring and train like a madman the next week and a half.
The only thing Im kinda worried about is the fact that I hope I can become some kind of superstar and I might jump in to soon and end up not bein ready, but **** it lets do this ****.
Feel free to share your stories of your first amateur fight, how much notice you had etc.
