    Amateur Debut in Two Weeks!?!?!?!

My gym is going to be having an amatuer boxing card open to novice and I guess is like an open card gym vs gym type thing on Sat April 15. I just found out yesterday Mar 30. I have been training in and out of the gym, mainly at home for years, never actually had sparring in a gym but Ive had LOTS of street fights and have boxed with gloves on against people instead of fighting. Ive never actually lost a fight were we squared up and fought. Ive got TONS of experience in fighting and I know its not against the same competiton as amateur boxing but I am already at the level where Im very calm and think in the fight, set up combos etc, so this isnt really going to be too new to me. I see it as Ive accomplised lots as far as streetfighting now its time to step up in class and go onto amateur boxing.

Its been my dream to box and I finally decided to get serious about it in January, the thing is that I was around 290 pounds. My whole plan was to drop to ATLEAST 200 because Im only 5'9", start amateur and go on to pro. I trained since January to get back in the swing of things and in the last week I have started to actually diet and cardio to lose weight. I weigh 255 now so itd be super heavy but Im not scared so why not do it.

the way Im looking at it though, WHY SHOULDNT I take advantage of this amateur show being at my gym. Im in better shape than Ive been in inawhile since in the last week I picked it up trying to lose the weight. Win or lose I am now and amateur boxer, and I turn 20 in May so I can say I started amateur at 19. I really would have liked to gotten myself in the abolute best shape because Ive been dreamin about this since I was six, but Im throwing my name in the hat and signing up. Im gonna get some sparring and train like a madman the next week and a half.

The only thing Im kinda worried about is the fact that I hope I can become some kind of superstar and I might jump in to soon and end up not bein ready, but **** it lets do this ****.

Feel free to share your stories of your first amateur fight, how much notice you had etc.

Good luck, only thing I can say is make sure ur conditioning is GOOD... thats the mistake I made my first fight... I started boxing in june, and did a tourney first weekend of july.... skill wise I was good to go, I outboxed my guy, and was having my way with him the first to rds..... but after that, I was DROP DEAD TIRED... i couldnt even get up out the corner for the last rd... so the other guy won, cuz I couldnt continue.......

So make sure ur stamina is good man, its no joke.. especially when you're all hyped up

Id say having your first amatuer fight only a week after your first spar isnt the wisest idea.

yeah but its not like Im some of these guys that need that first sparring cause theyve never hit somebody, or never been hit. Ive been punched, kicked, kneed, slapped, eyegouged, headbutted, elbowed, tackled, bitin, shot at, knives etc etc and punched, kneed, and slammed back with some big rough dudes. This is what I do, Im always ready to fight at a moments notice in the street where its bareknuckle anything goes and I dont know whats gonna happen, if its gonna be one on one or if Im gonna get jumped or if the guy has a weopon, or what he knows, or if its going to the ground, or if one of us gone die. So fighting with gloves, headgear, mouthpiece, a referee to keep **** inline, rules and no weapons should be no problem.

I wasnt talking about the dog when I said bitin but that too. I have 5 tooth marks from diffirant dogs, and one big mouth imprint scar on my stomach from some fool who was bitin my stomach while I was bouncing his head around with hooks. The punches knocked his head around and ended up helping his bite get deeper and deeper, almost took a chunk out. Dirty mother ****er.

Without much sparring experience you timing might be off in the fight.

Also make sure you have good stamina like McAlister said you don't want to tire out and get KO'd.

I just hope I can get in. I went to sign in today and spar and the gym was closed for some reason. Sunday its closed for sure so Monday I will sign on and I dont know if that would be enough time because dont they have to find an opponent?? I dont really know much about amateur boxing. I love pro but I never really cared about about the ams much.

thanks man, see I wont be hyped up I dont think cause Im used to fightin. But it is new because it is oficail amateur boxing. We'll find out though. I normally do 30-45 minutes on the eliptical machine, today I did an hour on the eliptical machine and only ate a protein bar and some carrots, also worked 11 hours. Tommorrow Im gonna try to get some sprints going, situps, weighted shadow boxin, sledge hammer, swimming.

At your size you will be extremely outsized by your oponent most likely. Have you been hitting the pads and working on your slipping? The mits will tell you where your stamina is at too. Stamina would be my main concern.
