I don't think anyone would be agreeing with this kind of decision if the WBC had ordered an immediate rematch between Maskaev and Sinal Sam if that eliminator was controversial.
Like previous posters have said, this ties up the top 2 contenders while Maskaev fights a joke. Now Peter won't get to fight Maskaev until next summer at the earliest.
So, no unification bouts with the WBC title involved until AT LEAST next WINTER. More than a year from now, and that's the EARLIEST.
The only hope for a unification fight before then is probably Liahovich/Briggs winner vs. Valuev. Klitschko isn't going to work with any of those three King fighters.
So it will probably go like this: Klitschko beats Brock on Nov.11, Maskaev destroys Othello (sic) in December or January (hopefully, or we'll see a REMATCH of that joke of a fight), Peter-Toney II in February, with the winner getting Maskaev in the summer. Then Klitschko will fight his mandatory (Austin/Ibragimov II winner) next summer, and HOPEFULLY then we'll see WBC/IBF unification next WINTER! That's the BEST CASE SCENARIO for unification outside of Don King, and it will take over a year.
I'm still skeptical that Valuev will give the Liahovich/Briggs winner an immediate fight, he may be "FORCED" to fight the Ruiz/Chagaev winner next spring.
This decision may provide a good fight, and I'll watch for sure, but it is not good for heavyweight boxing.
