That should be a thing when a fight is uncompetitive, but I know most folks hate that idea & idk if I exactly love it. It'd likely save some mfers from unnecessary ass whippings in fights they have a low chance of winning.

I absolutely get the idea when it becomes obvious there's a class mismatch the losing guy isn't going to suddenly account for in the eleventh hour and it's appropriate in many cases, but I feel like the chief ingredient missing here like some others have said is massive deblilitating punishment. Clary was getting picked apart from the jump and lacked the answers to turn the tide yet also wasn't really taking the kind of power to make that seem necessary imo and was minimizing the damage to an extent with effective protection of a crafty survivor. I also feel like the narrative in these shutout cases seems weirdly selective at times. If this was a unification or a guy with more "clout" than Clary I think it's likely the narrative would have been "He knows he's got to get that KO!" even if that possibility seems as remote as it did here, rather than "Spare him".
