I wonder if Canelo's lawyers purposely filed the first time with the intent of getting it thrown out. This way Canelo could show GBP and DAZN that he wants to take more control of his career or be taken seriously. Come Tuesday we will know more of what is really going on and what the outcome will be.

In the end the fans are the ones that get the short end of the stick. Canelo is still rich and will remain rich regardless. Oscar and his company will still be douches and DAZN will still find a way to keep boxing on a streaming platform for the future. The fans sit around waiting for fights to watch.

Yes the one weight one champ is the key. Every UFC fight means something in the grand scheme and championship fights get eyeballs because it's the championship. So much more credibility. Because belts are meaningless in boxing, it makes the promotion totally dependent on the fighter's personality, which is totally unsustainable and not even possible without a huge marketing campaign. There are not many Floyd's out there.

If you think about it, DAZN's position makes sense. They promised $35 million per fight which is the equivalent of an over 1 million buy PPV. That means the fight has to have huge exposure. How many fights out there involving Canelo do that number? Khabib, Masvidal, and GGG (I doubt it - they're last fight didn't even do 1 mil). No one else. Benavidez or Beterbiev don't do that number.

You had no problem with GGG Vs Derv but Charlo be him is watered down?

I think its more too it than that, but basically along the same lines. Boxing has also fractured itself into essentially a number of leagues thanks to the inability of promoters to work together.

These promoters act as if they are in competition with each other, when really they are in competition with other forms of entertainment (UFC for example).

So they water down and dilute the competition into a bunch of competing leagues with one another. A good example of this is whats happened with Bud Crawford and his inability to get good matchups at welterweight.

Lance and Mike had an "emergency pod" over this.

Hopefully they come together and have a better understanding of how opponents are chosen.
I don’t think the money is as important as Canelo feeling like he’s been disrespected by DAZN and Oscar. That Mexican pride means a lot.
Either they come to a deal to move forward or DAZN pays Canelo a reduced sum to let him walk.
Not likely as DAZN has tightened the purse strings and the pandemic has hit their bottom line hard.

I'm assuming Canelo will take the deal or come back with a close counter.

We're in the middle of a pandemic with a huge question mark around when live events can return to capacity, questionable economic outlook, etc. The PPV market is not a place I'd be looking to play in right now.

20 mil cash in hand per-fight with upside is sound. If Canelo goes back to PPV, there's every possibility he'll be doing Liam Smith numbers or worse against the likes of Saunders or Smith and walk away with a fraction of he'd made at DAZN.
