Comments Thread For: Canelo-Golovkin III: Canelo Opens As Significant Betting Favorite

Saul Canelo' Alvarez is expected to win big over Gennadiy GGG' Golovkin whenever they fight for a third time. In fact, the three-division champ and reigning World middleweight king is far more of an odds-on favorite than was the case for Golovkin in each of their previous two encounters. Sportsbook BetOnline.ag has set odds for Mexico's Alvarez (53-1-2, 36KOs) at -260 (bet $260 to win back another $100) to emerge victorious in their recently agreed-upon third fight, with bettors able to win back $200 on a $100 bet placed on Golovkin, who enters a fight as the underdog for the first time in his 14-year pro career.

Now that Golovkin has not only lost handspeed and punching power but also part of his stamina (as was obvious in his last fight), Canelo should be a 50:1 favourite.

Why do we want to see a fight where we ALL KNOW who (Nelo of course) is going to win?

I don’t ever remember GGG having any type of good enough handspeed to mention it as a factor. Ever. His thing has always been timing, accuracy and good boxing fundamentals.

Punching power? Punching power will historically increase/decrease with level of opponent. You put put GGG in there with another 160 fringe contender like he was KO’ing, right now, and you will see his power. Punching power will also historically decrease with going up in weight, which GGG has never done. So his lack of power comes from the level of opposition.

Now if you say he has lost foot speed and head movement, that is definitely something that makes more sense. But footwork and head movement are also two things that can look way better vs lesser opponents too.

I fully expect GGG to look amazing, like a bulldozer vs Serentela (i’m sorry, I have no clue/forgot what his name actually is and i’m too lazy to look it up).

Golovkin has zero chance to win. But GGGs fans have been claiming that Canelo was running from a third fight. No excuses now.

Honestly, this is very dangerous for Canelo. He is totally overlooking BJS, who has very solid boxing fundamentals. I can see BJS being highly motivated for this fight and catch Canelo being too complacent and eek outa decision. Booking fights with top opponents, while having an upcoming fight vs another top opponent, usually doesn’t end well.

                  400+ amateur fights
                  40+ professional fights
A fighting style of offense 1st defense 2nd
& Nearing your 40's will do that to you. That's life

Unless he lands a GGG bomb from hell & puts Canelo down like Marquez did Pac, I don't see GGG winning. It appears his window has closed & it's unfortunate he got f&cked over in the 1st fight. 2nd was a draw or close W for either man. 3rd fight we be Canelo saying "see I told you I beat him clearly every time"

Maybe he should dump Banks & take Furys lead & have Sugarhill train him. Don't know if it would make much of a difference but I feel like Banks has been a horrible fit & actually accelerated Golovkins decline. Say what u want about Abel but he had GGGs conditioning on another level. The man ate vicious body shots from Canelo all night & never stopped coming. With Banks I've seen him look tired, slower, and throwing a lot less almost as if he's unsure when to throw because hes trying to "box more".

I think that was the feeling immediately after the 2nd fight.

A lot has happened for both fighters in the time between then and now so it is definitely understandable if people's opinions have changed since then.
