He should have more potential to become a superstar than Canelo. First, he looks like a Mexican. second, he fights like a Mexican. Third, he fights guys people actually know who they are. Heavyweight guys are still much more known than guys like GGG and Jacobs.

Sh^t man lotsa guys have "potential star power". Very few flip it into real stardom.

Spence & Bud ain't stars so what does it matter if he's got more IG followers then them?

Ryan Garcia is huge on SM & he's not a star. I think people are misunderstanding real popularity & SM popularity too now that you bring it up. SM popularity is a bit of a racket if you know the game. You can buy followers. There are tricks to getting more followers. There are tactics to becoming big on SM basically that don't necessarily mean anything in the real world. It means something I don't deny, but calculating true popularity needs a more well rounded approach then merely follower counts.

And maybe Ruiz can be a star in Mexico idk. Its probably worth less money doe. I don't see Ruiz being a star in the US anytime soon I know that. Respect to him on the W, but transitioning that W into stardom isn't an easy thing.
You hit the nail squarely on the head. With one loss he’ll again become a relatively unknown name and placed back into the annals of obscurity. Boxing fans know the name Buster Douglas. The common man non-boxing fan doesn’t. However the commoner knows the name Mike Tyson. He reached that stardom. It will take quite sometime for Andy to get anywhere close to those levels.

I'll bet against him suddenly becoming the HW Canelo off of 1 fight. A guy becoming huge off of 1 fight is some movie sh^t. Its not real sh^t that happens in boxing.

Floyd built his rep for years in multiple divisions to get his opportunity to become huge in the Oscar fight. Same for Manny who also got huge from the Oscar fight. Tito. Oscar himself. Tyson. Holyfield. Lennox. GGG. Canelo. All these guys built themselves & their reps for years to become stars.

Ruiz got the right situation on one night & he's been fumbling around the HW division for a decade not getting attention or accolades.

Winky didn't become a star cuz he beat Tito. Rahman & McCall didn't become stars cuz they beat Lennox. Buster didn't become a star cuz he beat Tyson. And Ruiz isn't gonna become a star cuz he beat Joshua. Its just not that easy.

This sh^t don't work like some of you guys are acting like it does. This ain't a Rocky movie.
IDK if Ruiz will become a star or not but one thing I know for sure is that if his next fight was to be on ppv then he'd easily sell over a million ppvs, especially if he fights Wilder...
I Know he has the AJ rematch but if he can pull it off which I give him a good chance for him to beat AJ again then he can unify with Wilder after and that would be a huge ppv event,..I know it's a long shot for all that to happen but at this point in time Ruiz does have all the Mexicans from the USA and Mexico behind him and they will surely pay to watch him fight again.

Yes but Ruiz is with haymon. Even if he loses a rematch against Joshua, Wilder will be still there for him. I guess Wilder -Ruiz would be a big fight.

To be quite honest I heard more chit about yesterday’s bout from casuals and what not than Wilders ko of Brazeale
I think their promoting Wilder wrong , he should be bigger than he is
Their was a time when everybody knew the heavyweight champion
I get it theirs all kinds of belts out their but with him being the only American , he should be fughin huge
From Sesame Street to fughin selling vibrators late at night
My picture would be all over
That’s why I was pissed when he said all that chit about body
They gotta get him a pr guy , like they do in all other sports , needs to be moulded

AJ will box so safe in the rematch, even if he genuinely has Ruiz hurt he won't go for it. His mistake was that Ruiz was dropped, but wasn't unsteady and was still a live dog in the fight. You only trade if you have the chin for it, and even then you get in and get out.

Well written article, best recap of the fight I've read so far.

I can't really say for sure whether Ruiz will become a star after this though, it's too uncertain. The fact remains remains that he's really unphotogenic and has really just burst onto the scene suddenly through luck after many years spent putzing around on the fringes rather than being built up. On the other hand he's got probably the biggest heavyweight shock since Tyson-Douglas under his belt, and people love the underdog - not to mention that he has Al Haymon at his back and has suddenly become a smoking hot asset with his three belts. If he repeats vs. Joshua then he's got a real chance of becoming a big deal for as long as his success lasts. Even if he loses the rematch he'll probably have accrued more money and notoriety from those two fights that he probably would have in the rest of his career had Miller's piss never busted the Geiger counter.
