Comments Thread For: Canelo-Jacobs Generates Nearly $8.7 Million, 15,730 Ticket Sold

Saul Canelo' Alvarez continues to serve as among the most bankable boxing stars in the world-even if his latest returns pale in comparison to his own lofty standards. The reigning World middleweight champion added another belt to his collection in a 12-round win over Daniel Jacobs in their May 4 title unification headliner at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event generated a live gate of $8,685,750 from 15,730 tickets sold, according to final receipts submitted to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Lol stop. Push for a Canelo GGG trilogy or an Andrade fight. But fighting a 40 year old who's naturally a 140 pounder on his decline? Come on man.

Joshua vs. Wilder would likely sell out T-Mobile Arena

So Canelo only sold 15,000+ tickets? And only 600,000 buys for dazn in the USA? And I’m supposed to believe that he is somehow the biggest draw in the sport? Im inclined to agree with the folks back home in England, Joshua is a much bigger cash cow in England than Canelo is in the USA. And at they sure that gate sold tipped the 47,000+ for the Spence jr-Garcia fight?
This is in no way good news for dazn, if this is all they can muster putting Canelo in with what was supposed to be the toughest opponent not named golovkin. Dazn is losing money on Canelo, big time.

Ok so I added some figures....if the Spence fight did 47,000 tickets sold at an average price of $169 a ticket it’s just under 8m, so yep, it did outsell the Spence vs Garcia fight. Fair enough.
I wonder who they can get for Canelo who can produce to the level of dazn actually making money off him rather than costing them money.

A few comps GGG vs Jacobs did a live gate of 3.7M. Canelo vs that same opponent just did almost 9M. The only other PPV fighter fought in Vegas earlier this year and drew 6M and that was with Pacquiao and Broner who are each both bigger draws then Jacobs and those 2 combined did less then Canelo did.

Jacobs vs Peter Quillen (his biggest fight before he fought GGG) they never released the live gate numbers because the attendance was so terrible drawing just 8K in attendance and that number includes thousands of free comps they gave out and that was in his own hometown.

Canelo is competing against himself nobody else is doing anywhere near these numbers.

Who gives a damn. None of us here got free tickets and Dazn, Canelo or Jacobs aren’t gonna be splitting their cash with us.

Important thing was it was a fairly entertaining fight, hopefully we see these two back in action soon. Canelo vs Andrade and Jacobs vs GGG 2 or any mix of these 4 is fine by me.
