Was Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzales the worst P4P no 1 fighter in history?

Gonzales was considered P4P 1 by many on the board and like all great fighters he moved up a weight division to challenge the 'bigger' guys.

So one day he decided to hold in his poop for an extra day to make the new weight division of SuperFly weight, a whooping 2lbs heavier than what he originally was.
During the first fight he got throughly outclassed then in the rematch against the 'bigger man' got KTFO.

Roman Gonzales should be synonymous for 'Overrated' in boxing.

I've read that some think it was a marketing move for the lower classes. No one could knew what would happen later, any way.

nah Gonzalez moved up in 4TH division there, he also was minimumweight and lightflyweight champion.

And his 4 divisions champ run might be more legit than Broner's or Mickey's run, he didn't win 4 paper belts, faced beasts and it fired back facing Rungvisai.

      Gonzalez just took risks.

Let's see how P4P so called king Crawford looks when he moves up in a 4th division and get bullied by Hurd, or how Loma looks when he faces Mickey, Crawford.

He beat solid top guys Cuadras, Viloria, Arroyo or Estrada who were bigger than him.

But to answer your question, he's not a P4P king on Floyd's level, obviously.

A certain famous boxing ****zine has had twelve number one P4P fighters. They are Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr., Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, Sugar Shane Mosley, Roy Jones, Jr., Bernard Hopkins, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Chocolatito Roman Gonzalez, Andre Ward and Gennady Golovkin.

So he would have to be worse than each of them. So let's see.

Mike Tyson? I'd say he's pretty close to Mike. He got to 46-0. Tyson got to 37-0. Tyson was a two-time champion in one weight class. Gonzalez was a 4-division champion. I mean, Tyson's record has more names easily but Roman's opponents could have been just as good if not better. So, I'd say he and Mike are tied.

Chavez, Sr.? Well, Julio was a 3-division while Roman was 4. I'd say the comp was similar. So it's close.

Whitaker? Both four division champions. Both over 40 wins. Roman with 2 losses next to Whitaker's 4. So far, I don't know. It's pretty close.

DLH? I mean 2 losses next to 6. 4 division vs 5 division. I think Roman might have an edge here.

Mosley. 3 division next to Roman's 4. Roman has two losses while Shane has...more than that. Again, I'd say it's close.

Roy. 4 division vs 4 division. If Roy had called it quits after beating Ruiz, I'd definitely give him the edge but given that he dragged on until now, it's not as easy.

BHOP. Hopkins was 2 divisions but he basically unified middle and helped to unify light heavy. Roman was 4 divisions of course. Longevity though, gives BHOP the edge for me here.

Manny. 8 division vs 4 division. Manny's longevity is much better. Competition is just as good if not better. I mean, 7 losses vs 2 but not all of them actually were. So Manny gets this edge.

Floyd. 5 vs 4 of course. More longevity for Floyd. More titles for Floyd and unbeaten for Floyd. Floyd takes this one.

Ward. 2 division vs 4. No losses but 32 wins next to 46. Eh, it's a toss up.

GGG. 1 division but a nearly unified division with more defenses than Roman ever made. And of course, unbeaten. Still, I give it a tie.

In closing, Roman did similar to most of these guys but he's in the midget weights that most people here in the states and in the west, don't care about. It's a harder sell even though the competition is often as fierce. So I can't hate on the guy much. He tested himself and dared to be great even if for a short while. Look at his opponents and then really look at some of the others' opponents. It isn't as wide a gap as it first appears.

          Good thread though...

All things considered, he was pretty garbage.

Yes, although I dunno if he was truly #1. His was the name that basement dwelling phaggots on here would throw out to try and sound smart. Like bring up some obscure midget in any argument and it makes you sound knowledgeable. But just as he started getting hyped in the mainstream he got exposed.

You dont know **** about the lower weight classes i can tell. Chocolatitio's resume > Crawfords resume (If you consider him number 1)

For sure. And the least known of them all, also has the weskest resume. He’s also the most fragile when it comes to stepping up. Him and GGG is a tie.
