Originally posted by SuckaPunchCotto was 157 and Corley was 143/144. He didn't step in the unofficial HBO scale during the Torres fight. The bad thing is Cotto got rocked by a much smaller Chop2x.
No worries though, Paulie couldn't rock a flyweight if he would've wanted to

Malignaggi was already going to kill Cotto for hand and foot speed so imagine how much easier it will be for Malignaggi to do his thing with Cotto close to 20 pounds above weight while Malignaggi himself won't stray over ten pounds over the official weight.
Also, Cotto has struggled to make 140 before and may have deficient stamina down the stretch. Imagine if he starts to fade around the ninth with an extra 17 or so pounds to lug aroud.

Originally posted by BIGPOPPAPUMPNo, Corley put on 2 pounds or so and weighed 140 on the dot on fight night, Cotto was 157. He held a 17 pound weight advantage in the ring.
If Corley only gained 2 pounds from the initial weight-in of 140lbs then I say he should've sacrificed and made the 135lbs weight limit where his size wont be as disadvantageous to him.
With the current trend he can probably bring himself down to 130lbs and still be on par with other superfeatherweights. Didn't Morales come in at 144lbs at fight time vs Pacman?

I don't care what the reasoning for weighing in the day before is, fighters should fight at the weight their division is. There is NO reason to drain yourself so much to make weight, not to mention the health risks...These fighters should be fighting in higher weight classes if they cannot make weight and stay there. It is so bogus If a guy is fighting for the 147lb belt and wins it...and leaves the ring weighing 154, whoops bye bye belt, say Hello to a new division.
I feel there should be a maximum weight a fighter can put on after the weigh-in...If he surpasses that he should be fined, do it twice for a bigger fine...3 times either your fighting in a new division or your suspended...
This may be harsh but its really annoying...

It's the system that needs changing, i think it's obvious that fighters will take every advantage that they can get over their opponenets - it's to be expected. I can't blame Cotto for coming in at 160 and i can't blame Gatti for doing that. Blame the rules. Blame the commissions.
