Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Was Lomachenko's performance vs. Sosa, a better performance than Mikey Garcia's KO of Zejan Zlaticanin? Is Lomachenko's 8-1 record outshine Terence Crawford's 30-0? Andre Ward hasn't lost since he was 12. Does longevity count for anything? Are we judging potential, or are we judging accomplishments?

If we're judging accomplishments, the greatest amateur record of all time is a good start.
The Pro record to date just confirms what we thought we knew from the 396-1 amateur record.

He looks the part, if he can get the Mikey Garcia fight and win it decisively then he'd probably have as strong a case as anyone. No one thought Sosa had anything for him so there's only so much credit you can get for that, P4P number 1 off of that win is ludicrous.
The P4P number 1 spot is vacant for me, Ward doesn't deserve it yet in my opinion because the Kovalev fight was too close and controversial. It's not the type of performance that can elevate you on a P4P list to number 1.... it could maybe keep you at number 1 if you were there before the fight which he wasn't.

There is no legit Number 1 P4P now.
Truth is, reason why everyone is throwing 'who's their numero uno' now is because there is no legit Number One at the moment. Ward, Kovalev, Crawford and Lomachenko is a candidate but one can only take the realm of the possibility if they continue to fight the best. Loma for one is trying to do that but man, 4 good wins againts quality opposition won't make you P4P yet.

If I follow this logic, Golovkin should be P4P number 1 then because he has been utterly destroying Sosa level of opposition for the last five years. Lomachenko was a huge favorite against Sosa, a decent opponent, and even though he showed once again how special a fighter he is, that's not enough to promote him to P4P number 1.
As I said a few days ago when the talk of Lomachenko being P4P number 1 started, he undeniably has the talent, he simply needs a name like Mikey Garcia on his resume, a 50/50 type of fight against a highly skilled, unbeaten - and probably bigger - fighter regarded by many as one of the best boxer P4P as well. That kind of win, in addition to his sublime skills and what he has already achieved may very well make him the best boxer P4P.
