This what I don't understand about those taking GB's side here. Canelo said he was ready, invited him into the ring etc... Then Oscar comes out and announces the fight might happen in September 2017. It's quite clear who delayed the fight and why.

Alvarez has the $$$ but has to go through 160.
The A-side matter isn't nearly as clear as GB's press release would like to make out it is. They got the money but can't walk away from GGG without a cloud hanging over Alvarez' record.
There are months over which they can negotiate, neither side will, nor should the give or take first offers.

          1. They know that they look really bad for vacating the belt and ducking Golovkin, and aside from the GGG hating trolls on this site, the majority of boxing fans know that's exactly what happened. The Canelo-Smith PPV numbers show that he isn't popular enough to sell mismatches. So they make a lot of noise about wanting the fight (not in May of course but a full year from now) so they sound like they really want it.

          2. They know Golovkin will become more popular in the next year when he is likely to face Jacobs (next best MW) Saunders (unify all the belts) and a third fighter (Andy Lee or Eubanks both seem possible and entertaining), whereas Canelo is going to only fight once, against a middleweight who probably isn't top 5. His trainer has said he won't fight slick guys like Monroe, which means they don't want Saunders either. So who is he going to fight? Some no-hoper like Rosado. So it makes sense to try and lock Golovkin in now instead of later, when he coulf demand a higher percentage.
Exactly, they're getting worried about their position,
the writings are already on the wall

which was a worse matchup them lemuix and everyone who is not a promoter saying it still did 3 times what ggg lemeuix did. there really is no argument for ggg to get a split none not sure why people think there is besides cause they think ggg a bigger star in usa then he actually is

exactly. This is all damage control stuff. They are taking alot of heat and just want to make it stop.

There is no other reasonable excuse why anyone would try and negotiate terms for a fight a year away. It makes no sense......

If this fight is the Super Bowl of boxing and needs a year to promote like Gomez is saying then I think he's making a pretty good case for GGG getting a split.

seems like ggg fans arguments are that they think everything in boxing should change for ggg but yet its still not his fault because of this. its 2016 bro not 1912
