Everyone gravitates to things or people they can relate to. Many americans are part-time patriots.

for example, Many of the "white" American fighters who root for the eastern European or soviet fighters even though their is an American of another ethnicity(any on for that matter) repping the USA.

Everyone has a part of them that wants to see someone like them, be successful. There hasn't been a lot of success in boxing so that's why a certain crop keep pushing "this boxing is dead" mantra, while it is alive and well in mexico, asia, UK, Caribbean, American "black", Filipino, PR communities. etc. "white" viewership has plummeted because their isn't any successful "white" American stars. Lets be honest
White viewership MAY have plummetted bc many old time fans have passed and boxings fanbase is older than MMA 's . Boxing is not the only game in town anymore either so obviously the younger generation will find MMA more easily to follow by reasons already addressed...i keep hearing about absence of White American stars as fault but there is no actual data to support thats the reason for the decline ,based on what and who of recent times to show proof? You cannot say a sport is declining in a fan base when there was no actual white face of boxing in recent times since actually Marciano when it was stone age compared to now.

when there were more successful "white" American champions, their were more viewers

      its called common sense.

People want to see their own succeed at things.

Before MMA was even thought of, views and the amount of white pros was going down.

There hasnt been a main stream white American champion since Marciano , who at the times most fight fans were White in those days ,you dont know what your talking about most of those fans arent alive today . More ppl watch boxing today ,its called population growth .

Who are these successful white champions you speak of to show a decline in fanbase since 2002 when UFC went mainstream that arent there anymore ?

You cant bc you are making your own story line here bc the SUBJECT is Arum is claiming Boxings white fans have declned bc of UFC when its bc the fanbase has got younger and the old fans who grew up on boxing arent younger or are deceased , yes common sense......

bro....the latest white American champion was Kelly Pavlik. Is there even one, today?

in the 90s there was several....Troy Dorsey, tommy Morrison, Bobby Czyz, and others

the 80s had more and decades before that had more

whites lost interest in boxing because they were not dominant in the sport anymore. nor could they control it through shaddy stipulations.

Lets just be realistic for a second. they lost control. The mob ran boxing, there was a time when only whites got title shots, and they were the dominant group in boxing.

The white champions being able to duck the best in their division was over after the 1940s when other ethnic groups were given more opportunities for big fights

after this, their success rate and participation in the sport plummeted.

Many so called great champions pre 1950s like Jack Dempsey, John L Sullivan etc. refused to fight blacks

Representation is important in all forms of entertainment.

              From TV commercials on up.

              This is nothing new.

Morrison was never the face of HW boxing and in reality only known to hard core fans , Bowe ,Foreman , Tyson and Lewis were more popular ,the white fan didnt tune in to watch Morrison it was those guys .

The rest of the STORY you wrote has nothing to do with UFC stealing white boxing base that is imaginary bc it never actually had to do with white boxingchampions ,you are trying to tell me the old time fanbase s of ( DORSEY) and Chyz are the culprits to why the YOUNGER white fans TODAY dont follow boxing ?

You are making this into a different thread of PAST fighters who didnt fight who and haNOTHING to do with this one but i think you know that!

they went to UFC because that azz was getting tapped in boxing

use your brain. the less fighters who participate the less champs you will see.
