The only Pacquiao catchweight i had a problem with was Cotto at 145. It seemed unnecessary, like Canelo at 152. It puts asterisks next to wins that would have otherwise been fantastic
Yea, I didn't very much like the CW for the Pac/Cotto bout either. But, there it was. And nowadays, they're cool with each other because of the Freddie Roach connection. That win for Pac would have been a lot better if it was fought at 147, which Pac has shown he's more than capable of doing. But, it is what it is.

I'm fairly sure Rios wasn't a catchweight fight

Yeah but he was going up for his 7th belt, over 10 divisions, unprecedented stuff. 18 months prior he was at 130. It really wasn't obvious he can handle a top level welter like Cotto. Floyd sr and Paulie thought he'd get destroyed

I think if given the chance Saunders will jump at a fight with anyone in the middleweight division....
Now he might not win any fight, but I don't think he is the kind of boxer to pad his record to keep his 0..
He will lose a couple in his career no doubt, but i also think their is no doubt that he has the balls to get in and really make a fight happen with whoever...

The thing is, he is a traveller...and after awhile the travellers seem to get sick of lets say the training and behavior you must show as a boxer at this level....

I have liked Saunders for a good while now,way before the lee fight..but he is not consistent, he has his bad nights.. GGG would certainly give him a lesson, but he would make it a bit tougher than what GGG has faced so far...
As for canelo, that would be a great fight i think, a proper war, canelo has the power to drop Saunders, but Saunders has the heart to get up and go back to war..... I think anyway

You know, I think you're right. Now that I think about it, it was for a vacant title...had to be at 147.

Thtat's fair. I think most ppl around this time were in disillusion over Pac because he was just this tiny guy beating up top guys in Cotto & DLH right after moving up. Cotto was supposed to be a true test of his mettle at WW, so it was a fairly dangerous fight for Pac. It just didn't seem real that he could do it. But when he did it, he made a lot more fans.

So Pac doesn't take a " fairly dangerous fight " without an advantage ?

Pac had already fought at 147, vs Hoya.

And let me guess, Pac is also a genuine JMW champ..... right ?

And despite Ariza/Roach being on public record stating that Manny is a natural JWW who can make 140 easy, and that he has to eat 6 meals a day including shakes at 3am/6am just to remain at welter..... it was perfectly acceptable to drag those JWW's up to 144 where Pac had a clear advantage..... right ?

Right, so..... manny-weight is fine, and gennady-weight is also fine..... but canelo-weight is abhorrent and completely unacceptable?

Saunders can do this tough talk to win over fans but I ain't falling for it, I can't forget what he said about fighting GGG in the past and find it hard to believe those thoughts could have changed in less than a year.
