That's from the historical stats HBO put together. Pretty much all his comp has been below Barrera level save for Hopkins, who was arguably equal at that point in his career. Pascal has been a joke for a long time now and only won his previous fight via robbery.

Than 50 year old Hopkins? Who lost miserably to a man Ward knocked out. Nevermind, you keep on trolling....

Pretty much. Kovalev can't set traps as much as people like to think he's a sub par boxer. His distance/timing and jabs to the body can give anyone at light heavy trouble. I'm thinking Ward will be tightening up his previously great timing 8 distance by shaking off the rush

Hopkins was 50 and retired after that fight. Froch was better than that Hopkins, Kessler was a long time reigning champ and Abraham was certainly more feared. He also fought a bigger Chad Dawson who was better than that Hopkins who was historically smaller than Kov.

Prime froch/kesslers in their natural weight classes were beasts (froch more so)
Hopkins would lose to ward? Based on what? Wards best win in the last 5 years, is Dawson, at 168 which isn't even Chads weight class.

Gotta stop living off that Super Six. **** was started nearly a decade ago.

Bottom line is this. The connect percentage doesn't mean schit when Kovalev doesn't even go a full 12 when Andre does.

Side note: I know it's hard to compare because he fought a bum, but the new chunkier David Haye seems to be adopting this approach too. Muscled up to walk people down, slip shots a little closer staying in range.
I like his new style bc he has the reflexes to dodge even inside. But he has masterful understanding of distance so I'll never question that, but I agree Sullivan isn't a good litmus test at all, he was supposed to beat him and he did. Left hook looked good and Kov has a tendency to drop the right hand. Wanna see him shore up the total game plan though.

Super six was a long time ago, but Ward was dominant then and has looked as dominant ever since. Kov knocks out bums, and Ward's defense is better than any Kovalev has ever ever seen. Pascal countered Kov well in the first fight, Ward is an immeasurably better counter puncher than Pascal.

Dude is 32, hasnt been in any wars and just fought last month. Are you afraid he will beat a fighter that you like because your posts are filled with idiocy

Kovalev isnt even a one punch hitter, couldnt even knockout Hopkins yet he is gonna ko a slicker faster, stronger more active Ward? in your dreams, keep praying.

Hopkins is an old as man who specializes in beat come forward types.

Everytime he faced a skilled fighter with superior athleticism, he lost.....Roy Jones, Calzaghe, Taylor, Dawson, Kovalev etc....dont forget I said skilled. Pascal is a good fighter but his defense is porous and he didnt use basic fundamentals

Ward at this point as WAAAAAAAY better than Hopkins, who is wily and skilled but he doesnt have any power at 175, he doesnt throw many punches, and he isnt even as slick as he was 5 years ago

lay off the meth man....Ward would kick the crap out of Popkins and is a better opponent for Kovalev and would mean more to his legacy

when Ward wins, and you think so little of him that he isnt even good enough to beat Hopkins, I dont want to hear any excuses when he out right beats Kovalev

with those wide azz left hooks and overhand rights. Ward is faster than Pascal, more active, fights better inside and outside and doesnt fight in spurts like Pascal who is like a 175 Mosley of the late 2000s....speed power but sporadic and dont rely on fundamentals

Why is it Kovalev die hards(im a fan but logical) forget that he will be getting hit in return and will be fighting his best opponent and most elusive.

Ward is one of my favorite fighters and his defense from a set position was crisp as always. His offensive tactic of throwing haymakers to keep Barrera off not only won't work vs a higher level of fighter, but allowed him to get touched by Barrera. I don't care about compubox it's largely worthless because all it takes is 1 punch to knock you out. I just hated seeing him lunging because that is a bad habit in boxing, he could have been doing it as a trap but those were the only times he really was hit.
it takes one punch to knock you out, correct. Its two fighters that will be in the ring. Im certain that Kov will be getting hit more because of his lack of head movement and he doesnt slip shots, he leans back or parry

thats not good vs a counter puncher like Ward

Kov is getting hit too, people forget that.....Ward physically beat up most of his top oppnents and you train for 12 rounds...not one punch

Kov isnt even a one punch kayo artist at the top level. He beats the breaks off of guys before the tko or ko...bob foster he is not
