Actually when I heard that wrestling background I also thought that MMA could be an option for him if he wanted, although he has the potential to make 50x more money in boxing. A top level wrestler with top level boxing skills (boxing skills good enough to compete as a pro is very high) sounds like a beautiful MMA background. All he would really have to do is work a little on his kicks, elbows and knees and his ground game. But a top level wrestler (D-1 college) should be able to stop most take down attempts i.e. Chuck Liddel style.

I'm not saying he should go to MMA but with his background its a more logical transition than some of the big ****ers like Mike Tyson (who has been rumored in MMA for years now).

He gotta some points over there.

Hatton still have to prove himself more if he wants to be one of the top fighter to fight Mayweather.

Lets make it logic Mayweather won many fighter but nobody seemed to make hype but people are trying to underate mayweather and I dont know why but Hatton won Tszyu, I dont care if it his prime or not nobody told him to take a match, with Tszyu quiting but the fight between them was close and some judge gave Tszyu winning more rounds. I wouldnt call it fight of the year because there was so much clinching i though it was a wrestling match. another Hatton win is Mausse if he wins Callozo and maybe go next big name then i think he have a shot over mayweather.

Ricky Hatton is underated in my book..
He doing everything right..He wins all his fights easily..he's off to the USA for the big fights, he's winning world titles, with every fight and moving between two weights to get the best fights he can. He has a great action packed style and always gives great value for money and proves all the doubters wrong on this board wrong after every fight..But they still keep doubting him..
          He can do no more..
To top it all he has a great personality..He's a nice bloke..

He's been saying for years that we havn't seen the best of him yet,and he will get better.. the better his opposition gets.
To give him credit..thats exactly what has happened.

Even his bad fights where he has knocked his opponent out, he can be heard saying he was not happy with his performance.
How many fighters will be honest enough to say that?
          ...None!

I don't know of any other fighter that has won every fight (40)..without any of them being even close..
          Not even close!!

And people sit there and say he's overated..

              I see the point

I see where hes going with this. A lot of people look at overrated and make a huge deal about it. You have to look at it this way though, an athlete can be a great, hall of famer, one of the best ever and be considered overrated. Ricky Hatton is a fantastic fighter, but when people say that hes top 10 lb for lb, and that he could kill Floyd then they are overrating him. The fact that he beat Tzyu gives him major points. Do we know whether Tzyu was past his prime or not? probably not based ont he fact that he hasnt fought since. The only other fighter hes fought since is Maussa who got dominated by Cotto. When he continues to beat tough competition then Ill rank him with Mayweather, untill then Ill see him the same way. So is Hatton a great fighter? yes. Is he overrated by many? Yep.

It’s not really that bad because usually the two shifts complement each other and create a perfect balance just like the one in an Old Grandfather Clock. Sometimes a balance doesn’t occur and this is what’s happened to the boxing world’s perception of Antonio Margarito and Ricky Hatton. After ignoring, underestimating, and underrating both Margarito and Hatton, the boxing world has come to grossly overrate these two talented pugilists.

The thing about it is that it’s just not a few writers here and there, it’s everybody. Most of the Senior Writers for the Ring and its sister publications as well as most of the writers from the internet have opined that “Antonio Margarito and Ricky Hatton are probably the only two guys that can really challenge or beat Mayweather.”

Yes Hatton deserved the fighter of the year honors since Taylor’s wins over Hopkins were so competitive and so pitifully boring that it would have been more appropriate to have labeled their two fight series a stalemate. As a result of the controversial decisions, Ricky Hatton deservedly won fighter of the year honors based on his win over Kostya Tszyu who along with Ross, Chavez, and Pryor was probably one of the greatest 140-pounders in history. Interesting read and the author makes some good points, however, he is also under Mayweather's spell which has so many believing he is invincible.

His quote, "I just think it’s ludicrous to think that Hatton could challenge Mayweather." says it all. My dad told me a long time ago that no matter how big or strong or fast or good a fighter a guy is, somewhere, somebody's got his number.

Mayweather, is without a doubt, the best fighter in the world today pound for pound; but to suggest the man is unbeatable is assinine. No man who has ever put on gloves is unbeatable; and styles do make fights. Ricky Hatton has the style to beat Mayweather and he is a naturally bigger, stronger man than Floyd. Whether or not he can beat Floyd is up for grabs; but to suggest he has no chance is a blatant a case of hero-worship as those picking Hatton to destroy Floyd without giving Mayweather any credit.

Now, I will say as far a Margarito is concerned, personally, I think he's too slow for Floyd; but, either way, everything is specultion until the bell rings.

If thats the case is Mayweather overated..is he really the top P4P boxer..From the fights I've seen..I'd say he was top ten..but he has looked piss poor in some fights and won some very close fights...

Either way...I'd rather watch hatton any day of the week..
You know he's going to war when he steps in the ring and will give 100% & you get your monies worth...
If he wins or loses..you can ask for nothing more.

First off.....Your Dad is correct and is a smart man. Because people keep forgetting that people are human. Intimidation, Confidence, you name it can be different variables in a fight.

Someone might scare another person to death, and then beat them.

Oh and I really can't for the life of me understand why Margarito is considered "Overrated". That's absurd because I don't see universal P4P lists where he is ranked very high......I don't see him getting huge paydays against name fighters, I don't see people really eager to fight him.

He's Underrated, Ducked, and a guy nobody wants to get their wig split by. It's really that simple.
