Matthysse hasn't really developed as a fighter in the five years or so he's been around the top level. He needs to have a couple of camps in the US with a trainer who's used to developing world class fighters. Roach, Garcia, Joel Diaz, they would all be more than happy to work with him. But if he's content to stay with his current setup then he'll have to be content with the same results.

He could beat some fighters at 147, but he's not very big and it would show against some of the better welterweights.

I guess you've heard it used incorrectly, it's fire. Tried googling the use with "fryer" and nada. Either way your intent is correct. I don't think Lucas would do well at welter.

Welter has really cleared out, looking pretty weak at the moment.

                Nicely timed Lucas.

Okay first off . . He needs a new trainer. Secondly I could see that 140 may be too much for him. I could swear that dude would rehydrate 15-20 pounds day of fight. Maybe as an 30+ year old it's taking away his energy. And maybe him losing in embarrassing fashion will put the fire back in his ass cause he looked mentally defeated in that fight, like no passion, very passive. So if he's not feeling it anymore then just retire. Otherwise get a new trainer and get your **** in gear

Considering how drained he looked in his last fight, yea, either lose some muscle or go up in weight.

I always look forward to seeing Matthysse fight. When he moves up, I hope he employs a strength and conditioning coach to put some more lean muscle on his frame. He always looks a tad soft, so maybe he's carrying a bit of excess fatty tissue.
