Cotto's legacy is probably set, unless something really surprising happens. He was the next-best fighter behind the top tier of his generation. He's shoulder to shoulder with Tim Bradley, for example.
He was inferior to Pacquiao, Mayweather, and Marquez.
If he were to defeat Canelo, and then defeat Golovkin at 160, he would catapult himself into the discussion at the top level.
And it would be a really great jolt in the arm for Roach as well. A huge bragging point. IF Cotto won those two fights, but I can't see it happening.

Just remember to be a big name you need to be known, nobody knows who Ward is.
Who is Ward?

"Who is Ward?"
Oh, he's the guy that offered to fight Floyd at 160.
Who are Ward's fans?
They are the guys who fault GGG for offering to fight Ward at 164.

But even if GGG did 97,000
That's 37,000 more than Cotto did his first PPV.
Considering GGG did 150,000 fighting a non-Hispanic or American, I think he is doing fine.
But hey, if PPV is a legit Eason for Canelo and Cotto to vacate, then let them *****es run.
They are leaving the MW belt.
Canelo can go sit in the "I'm not a MW because I'm scared of GGG division" of 155.

From day 1 he said he's not a real middleweight, that no organization will dictate his career, that he doesn't have any problem vacating the belt if it comes to that, that he'll do what he and his team understand is the best for him. He's being very consistent in what he's been saying since the beginning.
Now, he's milking the MW strap to the fullest, and is because the WBC has letting him do it. He's saw his opportunity and took it...took care of business. For God sake, the guy will make 30+ mil in this coming fight, who the F*** wouldn't take advantage of that?
What he's saying in this thread is 100% true with or without GGG he's a 1st ballot HOFer, made crazy amount of $$$, got an impressive resume win or lose fought pretty much everyone from 140-154...so if GGG doesn't bring the type of $$$ he wants, why fight him?....I think GGG will have his WBC belt soon enough!!!
oh wait!!!!
his knee doe!
