WBC middleweight world champion Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs) is training hard for is upcoming fight with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The World Boxing Council has ordered the winner of Cotto-Canelo to face IBO/WBA/IBF champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs). Golovkin, as the WBC's interim-champion, is the mandatory challenger.

Nobody cares whether or not Cotto "needs" somebody. He has to fight his mandatory. Otherwise he will be stripped of the belt. It is not a radically new concept. You either defend or vacate.
