Comments Thread For: Posturing Won't Get Cotto-Canelo Winner Out of GGG Bout

By Jake Donovan - It doesn’t seem to take much to please some in the boxing industry.

Miguel Cotto and Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez are less than a month away from their head-on collision, which will take place November 21 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. The World middleweight championship is at stake, with Cotto making the first defense of his crown.

Looming overhead, however, is the winner mandated to face the man widely regarded as the best middleweight on the planet – unbeaten Gennady Golovkin. The reigning middleweight titlist is less than two weeks removed from a one-sided 8th round stoppage of David Lemieux in front of a sold-out Madison Square Garden in his first-ever unification bout and also his first Pay-Per-View headliner.

Both Cotto and Alvarez have already begun to speak of what terms they would likely demand in order for such a fight to take place. Alvarez’ name has already been floated as – with a win – a luring prize for the victor in the November 7 clash between welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley and Brandon Rios. The Truth is, Canelo either Vacates, looks Scared, or fights at MW

the thing many people seem to miss is this, if they do a CW at 155, and Canelo upsets GGG, then Canelo now has 3 MW belts without ever fighting at 160.

I don't know how any boxing fan can say that is ok.

Canelo has been fighting at MW for awhile now. He can't claim he isn't a MW while weighing 168, 30 days out for a fight against Cotto.

Canelo is complaining about size, but he was fine fighting Cotto and Floyd, smaller fighters.

Now that Canelo will be mandated to fight someone who is supposed to beat him, he's gone all diva. (He says fans criticize because he is great, lol!).

It's time to man up, live up to the hype of being the next great boxer.

Kudos to Team GGG for standing up for the integrity of boxing

This is why Canelo doesn't want GGG.

Not sure if I believe it.

Not because I dont want to be positive.....

Because I have heard that talk from Loeffler before, and because he seemed to go out of his way to NOT confirm that they will at least consider a catchweight.

I hope that "we have no intention of being responsible for that fight not happening"..... is not just another hollow promise.

Winner should fight GGG at 160 limit. Nothing more to say. Fight or give up the belt.

Can you share the link that shows how much GGG rehydrates to?

Winner fights GGG or Rid**** Bowe's the belt and walks away with their head hung in shame.

Its times like this that I wish boxing were run like the UFC. Dana White would have suspended either Cotto or Canelo for refusing to fight.

Another source also mentions Canelo vs Rios/Bradley winner as a possibility:

"Arum wants either Rios or Bradley to face Canelo next if he gets past WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto in their fight next month on November 21st."

"According to Arum, De La Hoya loves the idea."

Bradley is even smaller than Cotto... But, well, nevermind...
