Floyd is a 3 time champ at 154, Canelo thought he was tough and proposed a catchweight of 150 a year earlier, Floyd fought him at 152, Canelo got whooped and fans started b1tching about the weight.

Completely different from Pacquiao fighting an unranked guy at 150 who's coming off a complete KO annhilation for a vacant title, Canelo was the lineal champion and Floyd wasn't a mandatory, so Canelo wasn't forced to fight at 152, he could've turned down the fight and kept his belts.

I left out Floyd-Canelo because Canelo was the defending champion, not Floyd.

But you are correct in that Floyd had previously fought at 154. I should have mentioned that........

pro boxing has not adjusted weight classes in 100 years. For comparison, the Olympics adjusted weights 3 times for boxing and I believe twice for wrestling in this span.

If you adjust the weights of each class (maybe move MW to 165 and WW to 152) to adjust for the increase in average size of humans, I think the CW issue may go away in the future.
Yes pro boxing has, by adding weight classes. There are SO MANY weight classes now in boxing it almost eliminates the point of catchweight fights. Everyone has a weight class they can take advantage of, like Canelo who weighs around 175 trimming down to 155 to give himself an advantage, or Chavez jr or whomever. It's bad enough that there are way too many weight classes but now we have fighters literally inventing their own weight classes only one pound away from an actual weight class!

I think you should look to adjust the maximum weight in all classes. Adding new classes isn't adjusting weights.

WW is still 147 even though 154 was added as JMW. LHW is still 175, maybe it should be 180-185.

I propose eliminating catchweights completely. If you're the smaller guy who's going into a heavier weight division, you know what you're getting into - and if you're not willing to take the risk, don't do it at all.

Fights should be made between the fighters at their best, not zombified version of them.

That sounds abit like you critisizng everyones catchweight then praise Cotto when he wins a fight at a catchweight

Its now reaching the point of absurdity? How long you been a boxing fan? How much boxing history do you know? I'd suggest if you think catchweights are absurd they reached that level back in 1988(?) when Ray Leonard fought Donny Lalonde for Lalonde for his 175lb title & a vacant 168lb title @ 168lbs.

Champions forcing catchweights in title defenses is making a mockery of the sport. Other than DLH-Hops, Pac-Algeri and now Cottos nonsense, can anyone point to a defending champion demanding a catchweight in a title defense??
Alphabet groups made a mockery of champions already. They also made a mockery of weight divisions. There have been two weight divisions added (168 & 200lbs, formerly 190 or 195 iirc) just since I've been aware of the sport of boxing. Boxers are just trying to make their way in a already perverse & greatly altered boxing world. This isn't your daddy's boxing. As a boxing fan I sometimes think how hemmed up Ray Robinson or Muhammad Ali or other greats would be if they were around now & would they have been able to become what they became if they were around now. And that gets me thinking of who certain guys might have become if they were around in boxer champion friendly time.

                    Something has to happen.......
I'd suggest alphabet groups is the systematic problem having negative effects in boxing at many levels. In a boxing world with one champion being that champion means something...it has a value bigger than any boxer. In a boxing world with 4+ champions per division the top guys need ways to create value in themselves. And thats mainly done by putting asses in seats & by winning every fight. And when you are trying to create attention & win you do things like make demands & work your advantage to maximum effect.

Thats more or less whats going on now with catchweights with some of the biggest names in the sport. I suspect if anything this starts happening more. If this Prince Patal turns out to be any good he'll be defending a Junior Bantamweight title at 113lbs lol.

And with how much of a problem alphabet groups are you know how they'll probably fix this "problem"? I wouldn't be surprised if they created catchweight belts. Have a regular abc 160lb champion & a catchweight abc 155-160lb champion lol.
