I think that is a fair assessment. Although I would say that boxing holds a more important part in hispanic culture in the States. I think boxing is positioned very well for the demographic change that is occurring in the United States.

No it does not. That is why boxing is a bigger sport globally than mma...

The reality of the situation is boxing superstars have been considered the top of the food chain in terms of athlete stardom. Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Tyson, De la hoya, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mayweather... The list goes on and on. Top money attracts top talent. I am not saying mma can not surpass boxing. But with the data available there is NOTHING that suggests it is a "bigger" sport.

Boxing will always have it's place and in about 7 years boxing will stage a fight bigger than anything else that will capture the attention of the world.

But, UFC will surpass boxing in terms of popularity. It is inevitable.

Regardless of how little respect people have for the boxing quality of an MMA fighter, the fact is UFC is simply the evolution of combat sports and people generally going along with evolution.

As a sport, yes. Which is why I have always maintained that Haymon will never gain control of boxing as a whole. It is too large and it is too international. But when it comes to individual personalities, MMA is taking over from boxing. Boxing is lacking that giant personality to replace Mayweather and there is no one on the horizon to do so. Will someone else come along one day? Possibly, but who is to say that person will not choose another sport instead? Possibly even MMA?

You would expect that person to already be known in boxing if he existed, but right now - nothing at all. It certainly will not be a non-English speaker as that will not go over in the US. It will not be anyone from Haymon's stable as they have no real control over their own career and cannot do spontaneous interviews.

Anyone have any ideas on who will be the next larger than life boxing personality or how long it will take for one to come along?

Who cares really? They're different sports.

I'll always prefer watching the sweet science.
